15:04:41 <joo> Is there an easy way out to transform at ledger-cli file to something that i can read into the gnucash? Generating the transaction CSV file and importing is fairly easy, but then it asks for manual account mapping, which is very inconvenient... I guess I should import the accounts first (generated with "ledger accounts" command), however I am not sure it will work because ledger will output all the end accounts and not the whole tree, whi
15:04:41 <joo> ch means I will have to create placeholder accounts somehow, what can I do ?
15:06:08 <jralls> joo, I though ledger-cli files were supposed to be compatible with GnuCash XML files. But that portability is on the ledger-cli side so you'll have to ask them.
15:06:38 <joo> jralls, well it works the other way around, ledger is happy to accomodate gnucash users, but not the other way around
15:08:15 <fell> Old ledger versions used our engine, but recent version have sone self made stuff. So perhaps you can downgrade your data?
15:09:20 <joo> I am not sure if my data really requires any of the more advanced ledger functions, but not sure how it will help if i downgrade ledger ?
15:10:26 <fell> just an idea, I never used it with real data.

15:15:11 <joo> I have anoter question also, is there still no support for VAT in the journal, so that You can enter expenses with a VAT code so that VAT is accounted for ? Without manually calculating it and making new splits ?
15:15:27 <jralls> joo: So? We have never said that we support interoperability with any other application. We're not likely to change anytime soon, we don't have the resources nor do we perceive any benefit. We've also always declared that the only supported way to access GnuCash data is with the GnuCash API. If fell is right that ledger-cli has stopped doing that then they've decided to make it a one-way street. That's on them.
15:17:21 <joo> jralls, I understand that... I am just looking for a solution for my business that suits my needs... I have built a system that so far relies on ledger-cli, but the reporting in gnucash is just perfect, I only wish I could make it work together somehow, maybe if there is a freelance programmer somewhere who understands gnucash or something, or if there already is somthing available
15:17:30 <jralls> joo, the VAT support is in the invoice module. Entering directly into the register is strictly manual.
15:18:12 <jralls> joo, like I said, ask the ledger-cli folks.
15:19:00 <joo> ok
15:19:56 <fell> When I had to handle VAT, I entered either <net>*<taxrate> or <gross>/(1+<taxreate> very quick or used autocomplete
15:20:42 <joo> well it can be done this way, but if You handle thousands of receipts every week, You will waste a lot of time that way
15:21:30 <joo> So I guess I need to find a good programmer who can make VAT happen on entry in gnucash, or help me import data from ledger, to use the excellent reporting functions inside gnucash
