Found this while looking for info on GnuCash Portable Beta for Windows... http://gnucashportable.sourceforge.net/ --NicoNet 22:53, 7 December 2007 (EST)
- Yes, we've heard of that. Would be interesting to see whether we get proposed patches that make sense in the normal gnucash package. --Cstim 03:39, 8 December 2007 (EST)
GSOC application
- #11 What criteria did you use to select these individuals as mentors? Please be as specific as possible.
- The mentors are chosen because they have been involved in the project for a long time already. Hence, they can guide students how to get to know the source code and the communication in the community, and how to work on their project effectively. The current mentors will additionally bring in experience from the previous GSoc, and also some background from working with students in the academia. So they are not only qualified on the technical side, but also when it comes to communicating with and motivating the students.
- #12. What is your plan for dealing with disappearing students?
Sending email regularly; phone calls.
- #13 What is your plan for dealing with disappearing mentors?

- #14 What steps will you take to encourage students to interact with your project's community before, during and after the program?
They will be included in the official project schedule so that their results will get attention immediately. They will be included in the full development process with requirement analysis, design, implementation, testing and improving upon user feedback.
- #15 What will you do to ensure that your accepted students stick with the project after GSoC concludes?
- Does your organization have an application template you would like to see students use? If so, please provide it now. Please note that it is a very good idea to ask students to provide you with their contact information as part of your template. Their contact details will not be shared with you automatically via the GSoC 2010 site.

The project has enough interesting sub-areas and edges so that students can immediately start on "some area of their own", of course with mentor guidelines. The project is experimenting with several new approaches to the original idea of a finance management software, and some of this approach could benefit greatly from outside views and ideas which contribute to the project.
