04:42:19 <Simon> do people still use cheques in the US?
04:43:03 <Simon> the translations mentioning a cheque book are going to need replacing at some point to remain relevant

16:19:51 <jralls> Simon, yeah. Mostly old folks who aren't comfortable with online payment services or cheapskates who don't want to pay the fees (typically around 3-4% just like a credit card).
16:21:18 <jralls> I sometimes write them for charity donations on the theory that they have volunteers to open the envelope and take the check to the bank so they get to keep more of the money than if I donate online.

18:03:05 <Sorcha> Hi - first IRC channel for me :) I'd like to find out if a GnuCash can be passed from one OS to another. Say from Linux to Windows and back again.
18:34:42 <jralls> Sorcha, if you mean the GnuCash data file, yes. Look at https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Backup to see what else you'll want to keep in sync between different machines. Note that GnuCash itself should be the same major version (e.g. the current 5.x) on all machines.
18:35:38 <Sorcha> Got it- I figured it would be but... I'm trying to change to Linux, but do books for a non-profit club. The next treasurer probably won't be on Linux LOL
