15:43:27 <Sleet5410> Is there a way to have splits happen on differing dates? I am trying to deduct the cost of a service I pay up front, but will use for 5 years, so it will need to be split over 5 years for tax purposes
15:56:50 <AdrienM> No, probably the better way to do that is use an intermediary account to hold the whole amount of the initial transaction, then use scheduled transactions against the actual expense category. (or the reverse for which accounts are used when, whichever it is you need to do)
16:10:22 <warlord> Sleet5410, no. splits are part of one transaction. If you need to record different dates then you need a "suspense account" to hold the value in the interim. But practically, it's better to pick one date and use it and just "know" that the other side doesn't post the same day.
16:11:03 <Sleet5410> gotcha, thanks!
