00:00:58 <Caleb_W> What could go wrong with a currency conversion transaction? I've noticed that my trial balance becomes unbalanced after recording the conversion. Before and after the transaction, aside from the expected changes in the balances of the accounts holding the currency pairs, the ``Unrealized Gain'' line in the trial balance changes significantly -- it decreases by about USD 70, even though the actual loss from the conversion is only around USD 9

17:33:39 <Caleb_W> I'm not sure I need to realize them. With unrealized gains from the investment portfolio, the trial balance is correct even if there are unrealized gains or losses.
17:33:55 <Caleb_W> Apparently GnuCash can track these unrealized gains and losses and include them appropriately. For example, on the balance sheet, there's an ``Unrealized Gain'' row that correctly reflects both the unrealized gains in the investment portfolio (the same as that shown in the advanced portfolio report) and the unrealized losses from currency conversion. What I don't understand is why this figure differs from the unrealized gain
