2024-07-13 GnuCash IRC logs
00:18:39 <AdrienM> Robert847, what do you mean by 'sort'. I use that view exclusively, but I'm in MacOS. I can test something to verify if it is OS specific. I don't recall seeing a thread about such an issue.
00:47:00 <Robert847> AdrienM: I fild that using the right click Sort By.. menu does nothing in release 5.8, at least in some account registers. Now, trying to duplicate the problem I again crashed GnuCash
00:49:09 <Robert847> I just searched for info describing this and so far I did not find the report thatI thought I had previously seen
00:51:35 <Robert847> If, as you suggest this is not an issue in MacOS, that is another clue
01:15:12 <AdrienM> Robert847, thanks for some specifics. I tried that right-click menu in an account register and it sorted in real time when I changed options via radio button, and never crashed, even after settling on one and confirming with 'ok'.
01:15:20 <AdrienM> Does a particular sort order crash and others not?
01:16:32 <AdrienM> Does this happen for more than one register, specifically, of each account type? (I only tested a cash-type asset account because it is my main one, with the most transactions and from what I would suspect, most likely to fail on that basis)
01:18:11 <AdrienM> If you can reliably determine certain account types fail. I'll be happy to test them if I have them, and/or create a test file if not.
01:19:15 <Robert847> Now I cannot duplicate the failure to sort, so it must have been some other anomaly messing things up.
01:22:51 <AdrienM> I'll follow up that I just tested at least one account of every type I have, and everything worked as expected. The only one's I can think of right off that I do not have are those associated with investments. I tested Asset, Equity, Expense, Liability, Income, Trading. I do not have specific Checking/Bank, Credit Card, or other specialized types.
01:24:33 <Robert847> I will try to do more testing myself before I report a problem...
01:30:22 <Robert847> There is definitely a bug as reported in https://bugs.gnucash.org/show_bug.cgi?id=799370 which seems to involve doing certain things in a certain order, but if I am not paying attention to which order I am doing thins, I cannot help if I am seeing or not seeing another instance of that issue.
01:35:41 <AdrienM> roger that.
01:36:42 <Robert847> thanks for your help
