00:45:58 <mon> Thanks but unfortunately changing the default currency under edit->preferences->accounts changes what the default currency will be in creating new accounts but doesn't translate to the 'post to account' field recognising anything other than $USD accounts. Thought I'd have a look at the language setting but not sure where to look to see what it is currently set to. I see on pg225 of the manual that I can change the language in terminal
00:45:58 <mon> before launching the program but with respect to the code ll_LL, I don't know what the one for Australian English would be, assuming it is defaulting to US english. Is there a page with the various language codes on it somewhere? Thanks!
00:47:29 <mon> or otherwise a setting in the program that i am missing?

03:31:08 <mon> Thanks, running LANGUAGE=en_AU LANG=en_AU gnucash in terminal did launch gnucash presumably in australian english mode yet the 'post to account' field in the 'post invoice' pop-up will still only show accounts in $USD even with $AUD as the default currency. Presumably I'm not the only one outside of the US who's tried to post an invoice with this version? What curious quirk is at play here?

03:33:27 <mon> again, for convenience, Build ID: 4.8a+(2021-09-28)
03:52:50 <Simon> Could you take a screenshot?
03:53:11 <Simon> Some of that stuff may not come from the translations
03:53:53 <Simon> Did you create the book or some template accounts in USD?

04:26:52 <mon> Sure simon, screen shots of what exactly and where should i post them? In regard to your other questions, how i discovered $USD accounts work was by accident. So when you go to post an invoice, a pop-up comes up with a few fields and one of them is 'post to account' with a drop-down field box that shows recognised subaccounts under accounts receivable. as it happens i didn't have any subaccounts there but there's a button next to that
04:26:52 <mon> drop-down that says 'new' giving the option to create on from there. at the time even though i had selected $AUD for all the accounts i had set up, the default was to $USD and when i created a sub-account using that button, i forgot to change to $AUD so it was in $USD and became visible in the drop down strait away. I hit 'ok' and it told me i'd have to do a currency conversion at which point i went back, changed the account currency to
04:26:55 <mon> $AUD but then it would no longer display in the drop-down
04:31:05 <Simon> Try recreating the account as AUD. The invoicing features may not cope with manual changes like that.
04:31:08 <Simon> I don't use those features myself
04:37:03 <mon> I did do that already
04:37:52 <mon> do many people use it for business?

04:54:08 <Simon> Yes I think so, but you might need to try the mailing lists
04:56:39 <Simon> Specific answers in here may not be available at this time of day
05:05:20 <mon> No worries Simon, thanks. It works with a different build I've tried but the one referred to here was installed from the repository so, anyway, cheers

18:10:15 <fell> Mon, you can in the chart of accounts use the column selector https://code.gnucash.org/docs/de/gnucash-manual/gui-acct-tree.html#idm45844175065664 to display the currency column and set in all accounts AUD.
