16:47:24 <Robert847> Hi. Here is an odd one! I am running release 5.6.1 in Windoze 10. While the focus is in either an ordinary account register or in a 'with child' account register I right click and select Sort by... Then when I choose one of the options nothing happens - the pop-up is frozen. It is still possible to use the arrow keys to navigate around the register or to perform other actions such as jump to the other account.
16:48:29 <Robert847> I have looked for a hidden window but I don't think there is any
16:51:27 <Robert847> I can grab the window with the mouse and move it around, select save eort otrder, the ok and cancel buttons flicker when I click on them, but the sort order remains Standard oeder
16:53:27 <Robert847> At the moment there are two such non-functiional windows on the screen
16:54:28 <Robert847> The x in the upper right corner will close the window if clicked
16:55:52 <Robert847> Well, after that, I treid to change to another account and GnuCash crashed
16:59:27 <Robert847> Looking up stack trace I see that I should have planned ahead and installed gdb
17:01:23 <Robert847> Is there any troubleshooting info short of using gdb in windows?
17:04:55 <Simon> can you reproduce the crash? it may be a secondary problem caused by getting two of these windows to appear
17:05:35 <Simon> were they for two different accounts? I can't open two "sort by" windows for the same account
17:06:15 <Robert847> I haven't tried restarting GnuCash yet until I decide there is no log entry somewhere to look at first
17:09:14 <Robert847> Yes, I was able, as I said, to change to other accounts and do a number of other things aside from changing the sort order of the account that had the focus
17:13:58 <Robert847> I vaguely recall there being a bug in a recent release that caused a crash. Is that bug still in this release?
17:15:25 <Simon> that could refer to anything
17:15:46 <Simon> I found a crash in 5.5 that is fixed in 5.6 but it has nothing to do with "sort by"
17:16:22 <Simon> (it affected nested newly created accounts in the current session)
17:19:02 <Robert847> yeah, 'sort by' is not exactly a specific operation to tell developers about.
17:28:29 <Robert847> I know that it isn't a happens every time thing, anyway. It worked ok on a different machine and had worked of for a few days on this machine
17:56:22 <Robert847> I found a file named gnucash.trace.xxxxxx.log that contains several several errors, the last several of which were about could not find signal handler 'gnc_plugin_pageRegister_sort_button_cb' which were followed by <Glib> failed to allocate error. I will try to remember where to find it if I need it later.
