17:14:53 <Antisoche> Howdy folks - I'm having a problem in GnuCash 4.8 that's driving me crazy. I don't want to file a bug if its already fixed but I don't want to wait 2 days to get the new GnuCash in Ubuntu 24.04. I'd like to know if anyone can confirm if this problem does/does not exist:
17:22:11 <Antisoche> I have a Trading accounts set up, and am trying to import a transaction that represents a dividend reinvestment. The security is the ticker BND. I have (example numbers) 0.123 shares going into Account:BND (of commodity type BND); $99.99 going into Trading:CURRENCY:USD with 0.12 BND coming out. I have income of $99.99 and 0.12 BND. And I have Trading:BND consuming 0.123 BND. This puts 0.003 BND into "Imbalance".
17:23:25 <Antisoche> If I try to change "0.12" to "0.123" in either "Trading:CURRENCY:USD" or "Income" it gets clipped to 0.12 as soon as a tab out of the field.
17:24:27 <Antisoche> I imported these transactions from a CSV file and my register has other entries that have three decimals of precision in these accounts.
17:24:46 <Antisoche> It's just this one that I'm trying to edit that is giving me problems.
17:37:52 <Antisoche> huh. It seems that if I go into the account that has the exchange rate that's the place to put it. I can get it to 0.12275 BND if I use the inverse of the commodity price in the exchange rate. My calculator gives me 0.1227477...6.
17:40:05 <Antisoche> I guess that's my answer - ignore the reported total, use the dollar amount and invert the exchange rate. And use the arrow keys to set the rate because tab does some weird rounding and resets the other fields. Hopefully this is cleaned up in the new version, but at least I can get back on track now. Hope you enjoyed the story.
