14:00:54 <Kaligula> I'd like to build GnuCash for Windows. I've read that it's possible to build on Windows, but may not work. I can run Ubuntu/Linux an try to build but will I build a Windows installer there?
14:03:18 <Kaligula> Another question is – I want to build from my source (to check if my fix is working), but GitHub and Wiki instructions say about building from official branches only. How to achieve this? Or is there any other instruction that I missed?
14:12:32 <Simon> The instructions shouldn't be any different
14:16:41 <Kaligula> In general - I think so. But the only moment I see I can choose a branch is https://github.com/Gnucash/gnucash-on-windows?tab=readme-ov-file#building-gnucash when I run `TARGET=gnucash-maint jhbuild -f jhbuildrc build` (maint branch), but this is just a branch name, not a repo name or a path to source code…
14:17:42 <Kaligula> I just don't know at which step I'm supposed to enter the path to my source code.
14:49:59 <Simon> it looks like you might be able to specify your own branch name instead of "maint", but you need to go through the steps first for one of those branches
14:50:15 <Simon> it will then have a git repo of the source code that you can modify

17:51:34 <Kaligula> Simon: I don't mean to change the branch only. I want to build from my own source (my repo, my fork, or just the source on my disk drive).
17:52:49 <Simon> I know that
17:53:03 <Simon> but it looks like it checks out a copy of the repository
17:53:23 <Simon> after that is complete you can change it to your own branch and follow the instructions to build again
17:53:40 <Kaligula> ah, I see.
17:53:52 <Kaligula> Sorry for my silly questions, I've never done it before.
17:54:05 <Simon> I've never tried to build GnuCash on Windows
17:54:26 <Kaligula> What platform do you use?
17:54:39 <Simon> Linux
17:54:55 <Kaligula> I can use any Linux distro, but the question is will it make an EXE for me?
17:55:04 <Kaligula> I will to use it on Win
17:55:08 <Kaligula> will use* it
17:55:33 <Simon> (I have previously built Firefox and Cantata on Windows but have no reason to build GnuCash)
17:55:58 <Simon> it should be possible to build for Windows from Linux but there are presumably a lot of complex dependencies to build or link with
17:56:43 <Kaligula> So I assume it will be easier to just build on Win :/
17:57:00 <Simon> it's easier to build with whatever instructions are available
17:57:37 <Simon> I don't know if the official build is done on Windows or not
17:57:44 <Kaligula> Thank you
17:58:18 <Simon> this kind of thing is why Windows builds are harder work and some projects don't have them or don't do them themselves

22:20:21 <chrisfchb> greetings all! newbie here... excited to get going with gnucash! I engaged the qb_iif_to_gc today, and ran into an error on line 268, args=setupargs().parse_args() - with error message "the following arguments are required: iif, gcf
22:20:31 <chrisfchb> any ideas much appreciated!!
