11:51:00 <chris> CDB-Man AdrienM: further description on https://github.com/Gnucash/gnucash/pull/1880 wrt multicurrency transfers
12:14:06 <CDB-Man> I think the second option is better
12:15:53 <CDB-Man> [23:11:37] <@chris> CDB-Man: see https://github.com/Gnucash/gnucash/pull/1880 again however I'm not sure if/why CAD_Value==USD_Amount for splits << perhaps because an FX rate may not exist in price DB for that transaction? Because the transaction did not involve CAD
12:17:10 <CDB-Man> A proper accounting system always translates EVERY transaction to the book currency. Gnucash doesn't do that as it allows accounts to be denominated in currency other than book currency
12:18:35 <CDB-Man> It was why in 797796 jralls and I were kicking around the idea of using Alpha vantage API to pull historical fx rates as at dates of transactions (as opposed to just the fx rates on today's date which is what currently happens in the transaction FX tool)
12:23:12 <chris> CDB-Man: I fully understand that we should always record the book currency, however it seems the SPY transactions hit the USD accounts yet the txn_currency is CAD for some reason
12:24:37 <CDB-Man> Hmm, that is a bit puzzling
12:25:05 <CDB-Man> Is it because the SPY stock account has a CAD parent?
12:27:15 <chris> not in your datafile
12:27:26 <CDB-Man> Hmm
12:28:13 <CDB-Man> It's been such a long time ago I created that file I don't remember how I did it :D
12:28:32 <chris> I figured so!
12:28:50 <CDB-Man> In an ideal world though txn currency SHOULD always equal book currency 100% of the time
12:28:58 <chris> maybe originally your SPY had a CAD parent
12:29:14 <CDB-Man> Very possible

16:41:54 <stephen77> Hi all! I have a CAD account and a USD account for tracking sales (I'm in Canada). Is there a way to get a sum of sales in CAD, using the conversion rate for the day the sale was logged?
