05:50:22 <manis> Hi. I'm trying to improve some of the reports in GnuCash, but I'm not sure if it's better to try to extend or copy existing reports or create new ones and in the case for new reports whether it's better to generate HTML from Guile or use eguile.
05:50:33 <manis> Does somebody have tips by chance?
07:36:19 <warlord> manis, I think it depends on several things, like, which report do you want to create or modify? What changes do you want to make?
07:39:31 <manis> warlord: i want to make the transaction report, balance sheet and earnings report easier to look at.
07:40:12 <manis> I thought I'd start with the transaction report because it's 95% what I need. My main issue with it is that it's hard to see where one account ends and another one starts, so I'd like each account to be a separate HTML table.
07:41:07 <warlord> I suspect there will be problems trying to make each account its own table (the first being that columns will no longer line-up properly)
07:41:44 <warlord> I would recommend instead putting an \hline between, if you want better visibility.
07:42:06 <manis> Uuuh, are GnuCash reports TeX now?
07:42:12 <warlord> But I would suggest, for a minor change like that, that you start with the existing report4
07:42:34 <warlord> No, Guile creating HTML, but using \hline was easier to type
07:43:22 <manis> Maybe for a start it would already be great if trep-engine could add some CSS classes to the rows to make them style able with CSS.
07:44:20 <warlord> Sure.
07:47:52 <manis> But I don't think that's easy to implement either because trep-engine is bundled with GnuCash.
07:48:43 <manis> What did you mean with report4? I can't find such a scm.
07:50:30 <warlord> s/report4/report/
07:50:57 <warlord> You are going to have to update trep-engine.
07:51:37 <manis> My start was to copy the renderer into a fresh report but I'm still struggling to understand the code.
07:52:20 <manis> I found where the sub totals are added but all the conditions don't make sense to me yet
07:53:21 <warlord> If chris shows up, maybe he can help you
