10:04:37 <btwe> Hi all, after fetching transactions from the bank server, how does gnucash match recurring transactions?
10:07:46 <chris> it doesnt
10:08:59 <chris> gjanssens any views on #1623? i'd worry it creates a whole new dimension in textual fields, and will/may lead to editing requests.
10:12:10 <warlord> btwe, it wont make against a non-executed SX -- it matches against any transactions in the register, regardless of whether they are recurring or not. (There is nothing special about a recurring txn)

10:27:12 <btwe> warlord: thx, I understand. So how does it match against _all_ other transactions in the register? I mean sometimes gnucash finds a the most similar transaction and sets up the same credit/debit from the one it finds. But sometimes it does not find a \
10:27:16 <btwe> warlord: _mostly_ similar one. I just would like to ask if this behavior is configurable/tunable?
10:31:32 <warlord> It looks for similar txn amounts near the same date. I think you have a setting for how much +/- to look for (to account for, e.g. ATM fees), and possibly how many days +/- to search.
10:34:09 <btwe> warlord: thx. I'll have closer look first in docs, then code
10:34:44 <warlord> what exactly are you trying to do/understand?

16:29:42 <gjanssens> @tell chris I have not gone in the details of that PR. I roughly agree with your sentiments that a proper "tags" object in gnucash would be much preferred. But it's a much bigger effort so it looks nobody will take it up any time soon. Clearly only Vincent is pushing this PR (code-wise I mean) so I expect him to take full responsability for the maintenance. I don't think there's another dev available to co-maintain it.
16:29:42 <gncbot> gjanssens: The operation succeeded.

16:30:22 <gjanssens> Simon: true. I should update that part :(
16:31:47 <Simon> gjanssens: thinking further on this, I think it should perhaps have aliases?
16:32:44 <Simon> i.e. both "Deposit" aliases "Amount", "Withdrawal" aliases "Amount (negated)"
16:33:11 <Simon> maybe "Deposit {Amount,Value}" aliases "{Amount,Value}" and "Withdrawal {Amount,Value}" aliases "{Amount,Value} (negated)"
16:33:31 <Simon> I don't use this feature myself so I don't know how that would work, especially if you used an aliased field twice
16:34:04 <Simon> but I think "Deposit" and "Withdrawal" are going to be far more common than you think "Amount" and "Amount (negated)" are (which is the justification for changing it)
16:36:56 <gjanssens> I can only say 'Withdrawal' proved to be a misnomer and certainly not helpful in all use cases the importer supports.
16:37:24 <gjanssens> But perhaps it can indeed be kept as an alias. To be investigated.
