10:05:25 <potatosal> how do I handle employer HSA contributions? I set up an HSA account as an asset and my contributions go there thru a split of my paycheck. What about my employer's? where do I transfer the funds from? should I create an HSA income account? or just use the existing salary one? the employer contributes each pay period along with my paycheck.

10:17:34 <chris> Useless C function comments of the decade: engine-helpers.c #L104
10:19:03 <chris> ^ warlord seen anything more useless?
10:19:43 *** ChanServ sets mode: +qo warlord warlord
10:19:59 <warlord> chris, what's the comment? (I don't have the sources open in front of me)
10:20:43 <chris> uh https://pastebin.com/raw/BEZeSc5M
10:21:23 *** palerider has left #gnucash
10:22:25 <warlord> How is that useless?
10:22:39 <chris> easier to just read the code
10:22:47 <chris> no hint on the proper usage
10:22:52 <chris> no hint on intention
10:22:53 <warlord> It seems to clearly explain the logic of the function to someone who doesn't understand C
10:23:08 <warlord> What do you mean "intention"?
10:24:31 <chris> the intention is to handle book with or without the split-action property, while attempting to provide a poor backward-compatible mechanism.
10:25:19 <chris> ui shouldn't use xaccTransGet|SetNum nor xaccSplitGet|SetAction but should use these helper functions instead, however it's completely useless to direct on the proper usage
10:25:24 <warlord> I see no problem with trying to be backwards compatible..
10:25:56 <warlord> Well, those Get/Set APIs were there at first.
10:26:05 *** gandalf has joined #gnucash
10:26:14 <warlord> Then someone added the option to change the UI, so added the helper function to do that.
10:27:29 <chris> see 798714
10:29:09 <chris> it comes from the 7cdd7372f commit 10yrs ago to introduce split-action
11:03:41 <gjanssens> chris: I'll look at bug 798714 tomorrow if that's ok with you...

12:38:32 <gjanssens> @tell chris I have lots of thoughts on this num_action swap thing. I wish it had been implemented more clearly as a translation function between gui and engine than it is now...
12:38:32 <gncbot> gjanssens: The operation succeeded.

16:31:56 <jralls> potatosal, you need to balance the employer's contribution with an income split. You can do that from a separate account from your salary account or not as you please, and make it a separate split from your salary one or not as you please.
