09:00:27 <gjanssens> fell: any objections to merging PR#286 (tracking figure lists in cmake) ?
09:01:09 <fell> No
09:01:47 <fell> and don't forget to update the wiki …
09:13:22 <fell> gjanssens, any ideas about https://bugs.gnucash.org/show_bug.cgi?id=798563?

09:40:52 <fell> Thanks!
09:44:13 <fell> Bad example: no textobjects, sorry for blid people!

10:54:49 <NoobAlice> It depends on what you are suggesting! Detail here: https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Bugzilla
10:56:33 <NoobAlice> And that then links to https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Enhancement_requests if you are sure your request is really GnuCash related instead of AqBanking or something else.
11:04:58 <bagbudgeter> no this is definitely gnucash I want the ability to place my database in cloud storage like google drive or onedrive or whatever even nextcloud would work so I can run multiple instances of gnucash on the same budget
11:07:45 <NoobAlice> "run multiple instances of gnucash on the same budget" I don't think the GnuCash database can be accessed by multiple users at the same time, if that's what you want.
11:07:55 <NoobAlice> But people already do put files in cloud storage: https://lists.gnucash.org/pipermail/gnucash-user/2014-July/055545.html
11:08:58 <bagbudgeter> it doesn't need to be at the same time it's just that sometimes i update from home and othertimes i update from work
11:09:43 <NoobAlice> I don't use cloud storage, but that would probably work, based on what I have seen other people say in the mailing list.
11:10:44 <bagbudgeter> well that certainly sounds easy enough. Now I just need to figure out how I get a google drive folder. I know how to make one on google drive but this would have to be local for it to work
11:12:44 <fell> To learn , what to "back up" see https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Backup
11:14:16 <NoobAlice> And, to be clear, I don't think you are limited to Google Drive. Other people on the mailing list are mentioning Drop Box and similar, so I would imagine any cloud storage provider would work.
11:19:40 <bagbudgeter> nice, well you have certainly been worth your weight in gold, I'll have to make a donation to the project when i have some extra money cuz it just saved me 90 dollars a year
11:20:26 <NoobAlice> It's a great program. I'm just a happy user, like you, but fell is a dev and excellent. :)
11:22:18 <bagbudgeter> thank you for all your hard work fell
11:23:24 <bagbudgeter> see this is the reason I have tux tattooed on my arm because we're the most amazing community and social experiment ever conducted

11:25:55 <bagbudgeter> if anyone ever asks about being able to use the app in conjunction, on android at least you can in fact load your database via google drive so now not only can i use desktop at home and work if i'm out and about i can add a transaction on the app
11:27:05 <NoobAlice> bagbudgeter: There are at least two apps out there, and both have limits, so learn what those are and keep good backups.
11:27:11 <NoobAlice> *phone apps
11:28:04 <bagbudgeter> this is just called gnucash android that's why i thought it was connected
11:28:29 <NoobAlice> https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/GnuCash_and_Mobile_Devices
11:30:22 <NoobAlice> It is intended to be used with official GnuCash, but it is NOT by the same devs. That app you mention has not been updated since 2020. It may be great, but it could also have limits that surprise you and cause problems with your data file, so proceed cautiously and keep backups.
11:30:46 <NoobAlice> And the last version release was 2018.
11:33:02 <bagbudgeter> ok
11:33:34 <bagbudgeter> it doesn't look like it's going to work anyway the edits i'm doing on my phone aren't propagating
11:35:54 <bagbudgeter> I know I can do it via export but that's not efficient enough for someone with adhd it'll just become another task I don't want to do.
11:36:20 *** bagbudgeter is now known as badbudgeter
11:39:46 <NoobAlice> Personally, I stuff my receipts in my wallet and just enter them when I get home.
11:40:32 <badbudgeter> I may have to do that it's not like I'm not on a computer all day
11:42:16 <badbudgeter> I'll know by tonight if editing from work works or not. I have a sneaking suspicion that the file is creating versions based on hostname so they'll never meet.
11:43:12 <NoobAlice> Best of luck to you! Do join the mailing list if you haven't already. It is more active for getting help: https://lists.gnucash.org/mailman/listinfo/gnucash-user
11:46:03 <badbudgeter> I'll join when I get into work I think I'm gonna try to squeeze in a power nap
12:13:19 <fell> gjanssens, can you merge the rest of https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Documentation_Improvement#Initial_Steps into https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Initializing_Documentation_Build_Environment—with exception of the link. ? Having 2 places with the directory layout etc. is confusing.
12:22:41 <gjanssens> Ok, done
12:37:00 *** gjanssens has quit IRC
13:19:27 <jralls> @tell gjanssens Plus it was Wednesday so I was off building houses all day. There's no problem with your changes per se, they're just a big change to the master docs that might cause conflicts when merging up maint. Merging them into master and having CWehli's extensive changes go to master after them would prevent that.
13:19:27 <gncbot> jralls: The operation succeeded.

17:50:34 <NoobAlice> badbudgeter: I don't use any mobile app, so I have no advice on that end. When using the official GnuCash program, it will make regular backups of your file and also .log files. So, for my GnuCash file right now, I have a bunch of automatically created backup files in the same directory title NoobAlice.gnucash.2022081843803.gnucash and similar, based on the date and time they were created.
17:50:51 <NoobAlice> Now, did it actually delete your main file, or did you move it onto a cloud service?
19:06:42 <badbudgeter> it somehow deleted it from the cloud service
19:07:08 <badbudgeter> everything was good when I left home, I went to connect my work pc to the existing file and it didn't exist
19:12:52 <badbudgeter> I think I'm going to give myself another year to figure this out, maybe by then i'll be able to modify it to do what i want more efficiently
