14:39:23 <jralls> fell, could you elaborate on that a bit?
14:42:03 <jralls> gjanssens, since you're here: I need to re-release the 4.10 docs because a screwed-up merge left out all of the Guides except Portuguese from the tarball. Any thoughts on what I should call/tag it? I don't want to snap-release GnuCash so I don't want to go to 4.11. 4.10a and 4.10-1 come to mind.
14:43:26 <gjanssens> I'd use 4.10.1
14:43:59 <gjanssens> The -1 is typically a numbering used to identify changes due to packaging
14:44:58 <gjanssens> The a,b,c option is more difficult for post-processing in scripts (again considering distro packaging)
14:44:58 <jralls> Right, and distros use it a lot, so best avoided. But 4.10.1 would be a return of the old 3-digit numbering; might that be confusing?
14:45:39 <gjanssens> I think it makes sens to use it only for hotfix releases such as this one. We may want to update our release related documentation on that.
14:46:03 <gjanssens> sens*e*
14:46:07 <gjanssens> BRB
14:47:00 <jralls> OK, that makes sense, especially if we document it.
14:47:54 <fell> The thread: https://lists.gnucash.org/pipermail/gnucash-de/2022-March/012342.html
15:01:25 <jralls> Ask them to 1 make sure that it still doesn't work in 4.10 and if not to file a bug report. You might remind them that posting bugs to gnucash-de doesn't work because none of the coders read it.
15:10:33 <gjanssens> jralls: Before we switched to a two-digit version number we actually had 4 - there was also an optional "nano" version. I believe that digit had the same function.
15:10:44 <gjanssens> You removed it in https://github.com/Gnucash/gnucash/commit/dc6d86efdb44246b7974ac6c673be826cd80ea04
15:11:02 <gjanssens> I don't remember if we have used that one much in the past.
15:14:02 <jralls> I don't think we ever used it. It shouldn't matter much for docs but if we're going to reintroduce a hotfix number as general policy then I need to check our various scripts to make sure nothing explodes, especially since it will usually be empty rather than 0.
15:15:08 <gjanssens> Indeed.
15:15:51 <gjanssens> Got to go. Congrats with the new release ! (even if it still needs some fixing :)

21:08:28 <chris> so, should invoice qty get option "exact" to show fraction instead of 2 decimal places?
21:13:09 <jralls> He asked for more decimal places, not a fraction display. I guess you could do both, or absent a bunch of "oh, I'd like that too", neither.
21:20:06 <chris> hmm exact fraction is difficult; having a quantity of 1/3 will be recorded as 333333333/1000000000
21:21:08 <chris> to have a numeric option is also less elegant... needs start/stop/increment
21:22:49 <fell> Huh? 1/3<>333333333/1000000000!
21:23:26 <chris> This is the gncEntryGetDocQuantity output. Don't shoot the messenger.
21:23:26 <jralls> chris, No, gnc_numeric is a Rational number class. If you tell it 1/3, it stores 1/3.
21:23:58 <jralls> GTG, dinner.
21:24:16 <chris> GTG, work :)
21:26:59 <fell> BTW, does it shorten 3/9 -> 1/3? It's a long time that Ilooked there.
21:44:04 <fell> Better no shortening here, 3/12 tart is easier understood for tarts of 12 pieces.

22:49:52 <jralls> fell, Yes, it reduces fractions. Not a big deal for little ones but very important for big ones to prevent overflow.
23:24:19 <jralls> fell, I just uploaded new bundles for macOS, Windows, and a 4.10.1 doc tarball. The wiki has an entity for the macOS bundle version suffix. Do we need one for Windows and the documentation too?
