01:20:43 <kagazwala> Hello Everyone
01:21:37 <kagazwala> I have just installed GNUCash as it has a double entry system which is easier for me to understand
01:22:47 <kagazwala> My question is : I get multiple jobs for which I have to make expences. Now how do I record expences for each job individually so that at the end of the month i can see the expence as whole and as individual job as well
01:28:07 *** frakturfreak1 has joined #gnucash
01:29:22 <kagazwala> is anyone using GNU Cash here

02:04:06 *** raeburn has joined #gnucash
02:04:57 <Zombie> You know how have Assets, Liabilities, etc? You can create sub-accounts under each one as a collapsable tree.
02:05:49 <kagazwala> I read in a post that GNUCash has now some feature for Job Order Costing

02:59:35 <raeburn> Is there a good way for an employee to fetch data from ADP (paycheck processor) and feed it to gnucash, rather than manually typing in all the salary, tax withholding, bank deposit, etc numbers?
02:59:35 <raeburn> So far all I’ve found is downloading PDF copies of paystub printouts. Now, they’re somewhat structured and presumably generated programmatically rather than scanned from paper, so there might be a snowball’s chance of parsing that in some vaguely useful way, but...ugh.

07:34:22 <warlord> raeburn, hey Ken. I do not know of any way to import an ADP e-paystub, short of somehow post-processing the PDF.
07:35:56 <warlord> Zombie, short of calling the bank and finding "the right person", or finding someone with quicken to track the OFX... unlikely
08:15:20 <chris> fell: they mainly require feedback on internationalizable strings.
08:18:13 <fell> Chris, "Negative amounts detected" is a sentence in the tooltip, a window title or a label?
08:46:11 <chris> it'll be part of the error message.
08:46:33 <chris> my string is simply a placeholder.

13:16:00 <jralls> chris, that's in gcc 11.1: https://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs/libstdc++/manual/status.html and clang 12, https://releases.llvm.org/12.0.0/projects/libcxx/docs/Cxx2aStatus.html, search for p0919. You just need to change -std=c++17 to -std=c++20 in CMakeLists.txt to test it and benchmark it.

16:35:23 <raeburn> warlord: Yeah, that’s kind of what I figured. I’ve seen mention of tools that can pull tables out of PDFs, though I don’t know how good they are. Maybe I’ll be able to do something with that.
16:36:49 <raeburn> I’m looking at getting back into using gnucash after having stopped some time ago. But this time with an eye towards automating things better so the tedium of manual data entry doesn’t lead me to eventually stop again. :-/
16:38:51 <warlord> raeburn, THere are pdf2txt (or at least pdf2html) converters.. not sure how good they are
16:41:24 <raeburn> So I’m thinking about taggun.io for paper receipts, parsing email receipts from CVS and the like, figuring out whatever routine I need for fetching data from my banks and CC companies (maybe aqbanking again, but the installation on mac and configuration was a hassle last time, and not all the institutions were supported anyway), trying to figure out how to deal with the likes of PayPal and Venmo, etc., etc..
16:42:47 <raeburn> Yeah, extracting text should be easy, but if there’s already code that figures out that certain groups of text are collected together and aligned in table form, that’s even better.
16:45:25 <warlord> I am not aware of any, but I haven't really looked.
16:58:25 <raeburn> There are at least some packages out there (tabula, camelot), but I haven’t tried any of them out yet. Online services too, but I don’t think I want to go that route with my pay stubs. For receipts, maybe.

20:13:41 <chris> jralls changing c++17 to c++20 makes little difference in benchmarks.
20:13:58 <chris> ^ this using char* as the Key
20:14:04 <chris> haven't had time to test with sv
20:14:40 <jralls> Yup, it would be to make the string_view alternative work.
