03:28:23 <fell> chris, what is the meaning of the dot in "Sort companies by." from the aging reports?
03:34:17 *** Aussie_matt has quit IRC
03:55:16 <chris> fell these were copied from the old aging reports. not my decision. having said that, I suspect a dot was added for all tooltip text. wasn't this your policy?
03:56:01 <fell> My is: A full sentence.
03:56:32 <fell> But a flyby had added a do to almost everysting.
03:56:40 <fell> dot
04:00:19 <fell> But it is a tooltip, not the label?

04:31:48 <gjanssens> .
04:52:48 <chris> fell: tooltip only. add to add to ui madness, the multichoice option tooltip isn't available -- only the individual multichoices' tooltips are shown thanks to bobit
04:56:10 <chris> CDB-PHONE: wrt A/L accounts in the wrong account group -- IMV nothing wrong with A/L mismatch. the issues are: (1) legacy accts will rollup children accounts to parents - but not always;
04:56:44 <chris> e.g. display-depth=2, acct.level=4, should it roll up if parent-subtotal is #false?
04:56:58 <chris> (2) legacy have a weird flatten option - dunno how it works
04:57:42 <chris> (3) my multicol reports ignore these issues entirely - limits depth according to options, and enforces subtotals - either in parent acct, or displayed after acct-group
04:57:59 <chris> hence the A/L or INC/EXP mismatch will cause problems
04:58:56 <chris> still A/L mismatch is acceptable eg GST is either A/L and I'd place it under a root GST [A or L] acct
04:59:08 <chris> whereas INC/EXP mismatch seems wrong
05:00:16 <chris> ultimately I made the multicol reports for my own needs/wants, then arbitrarily decided that this is best approach
05:00:43 <chris> maybe 20 yrs from now someone will swear at my code

09:28:35 <CDB-PHONE> chris the roll up should not be to parents when there's a mismatch -- the problem is that in commercial software, the operational roll-up and reporting roll-up are not always the same thing
09:28:46 <CDB-PHONE> gnucash of course only allows 1 roll up

12:58:14 <jralls> chris, re https://bugs.gnucash.org/show_bug.cgi?id=798128 ISTM you're waiting for Jean Laroche to implement his suggestion in https://github.com/Gnucash/gnucash/pull/717#issuecomment-779532579.

13:01:10 <jralls> > Thu-08:26 chris: the core of bug is: I'd think a bank which sends OFX with inconsistent online_id should be considered broken
13:02:18 <jralls> chris, it might be true that a bank that doesn't comply with the OFX spec is broken, but telling users to go fix their bank isn't reasonable.

13:09:22 <jralls> chris, bugs can't be reverted. You mean commit a143d59 should be reverted. But you told Jean Laroche that his proposal to skip only if the incoming also has an online_id is acceptable. Why are you arguing to revert when he hasn't even replied to your request for a PR?

18:39:45 <chris> jralls: ok i'll wait -- it looked like he'd decline to push another PR
18:43:13 <jralls> chris, patience. I know it's hard to believe, but not everyone has GnuCash at the very top of their priorities.
18:44:10 <jralls> And if he doesn't want to it's still a better choice than reverting.
18:57:47 <jralls> chris, separate subject, have you encountered anywhere converting scheme symbols to something besides its string in C?
18:59:50 <chris> in gnucash? no
19:00:08 <chris> there's symbol->keyword
19:02:34 *** jcarl43 has quit IRC
19:03:37 <jralls> From C that looks the same as symbol->string. Both return a char*.
19:06:06 <jralls> Besides, keywords seem to be equivalent to Python's named parameters. ISTR something about adding that to C++ too, but I don't think it's a priority for the committee.
19:07:07 <jralls> And anyway not what I need.
19:07:25 <chris> looking for hash int?
19:10:17 <jralls> No, I've got an enum for relative date periods, e.g. RelativeDatePeriod::START_OF_MONTH. Scheme encodes that as a symbol, 'start-of-month. Swig, on the other hand, encodes it as a function, (RelativeDatePeriod-start-of-month) that returns the integer equivalent or the enum.

19:16:09 <chris> ok not sure theres simpler
19:17:35 <jralls> Oooh, https://www.gnu.org/software/guile/docs/docs-2.0/guile-ref/Symbol-Props.html#Symbol-Props. So maybe I can do (symbol-fset! 'start-of-mont RelativeDatePeriod-start-of-month) and then call scm_cal_0(scm_symbol_fref(symbol)) to get the function value.
19:18:03 <jralls> Don't need simpler. Need something faster than a frigging string parser.
