09:59:05 <frakturfreak> At least in Germany there two different approaches to umlaut sorting: either directly after the vowel without the umlaut or after vowel+e. I don’t what the prefered/recommended way is.

12:00:22 <Tom> Hi guys. Whenever I try to create a new online banking user, during the setup a new small window pops up repeatedly that says "Acquiring lock" and has a close and abort button. It runs for a while then closes, comes up again and repeats a few times before it stops. Any idea what's going on?

12:41:31 <fell> frakturfreak: you can test it with sort <textfile>. You will find Ä=A, …
12:44:55 <fell> Tom, verify gnucash* and aq* are not running. Then search $HOME/.aqbanking for *.lck files and remove them.
12:49:19 <fell> Lock files can remain if a program crashed or the computer lost powerbefore.
12:50:27 <Tom> @fell i'm on win10 not finding .aqbanking folder found .gnucash though
12:50:27 <gncbot> Tom: Error: "fell" is not a valid command.
12:52:21 <fell> In your explorer "Show hidden files" or similar is set?
12:53:24 <Tom> Yes it is
12:56:48 *** tim has quit IRC
12:58:17 <Tom> Just found an aqbanking folder with no . in the front. has 2 files config.conf and uniqueid.conf
13:00:11 <fell> I am no windows user. It may be below %HOME%\AppData\Local or %HOME%\AppData\Roaming
13:01:16 <fell> and have subfolders backends and settings6
13:02:22 <Tom> ok yeah that was the folder without the period in the front. Renamed it to aqbanking-old and trying again.

13:03:04 <Tom> By the way is there a way to select multiple transactions in an account and change the transfer account? I was doing it in a large import and more than half way through gnucash crashed and lost all the work

13:03:18 <schapira> hi
13:03:47 <schapira> can someone help my to find the right way to install the hebrew translation?
13:05:44 <jralls> schapira, it depends on your OS. On most it's installed along with GnuCash but some Linux distros have language packs that you need to install.

13:06:50 <jralls> Tom, no, there is no multi-select or multi edit. Everything is one-at-a-time.
13:06:50 <schapira> sorry, I installed today the stable version on windows 10
13:07:14 <fell> tom, the configuration (Tools->Online Banking Setup) and fetching transactions (Actions->Online …) are 2 different steps. you can save between them.
13:07:19 <schapira> (I meen sorry that I havent say it)
13:07:29 <Tom> got paypal setup but when tried to get transactions got status error (11) any idea what that might be?
13:09:14 <jralls> schapira then it's already there, no installation required. If you're not using Hebrew as your primary language on the computer see https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Locale_Settings.
13:11:02 <schapira> I already add: "
13:11:14 <schapira> "LANG=il_HE
13:11:14 <schapira> LANGUAGE={HE}" to env file
13:11:26 <schapira> is that wrong?
13:11:51 <jralls> No braces around HE when setting Language.
13:12:40 <fell> he_IL
13:12:53 <fell> not il_HE

17:42:42 <crossan007> Seeing a weird behavior with GNUCash on windows 10. It seems that I cannot use my system clipbaord when GNUCash is open. Not seeing anything on Google about it - anyone have ideas?
17:43:23 <crossan007> Ctrl+c appears to do nothing; Ctrl+X removes original text, but doesn't seem to make text available for Ctrl+V
17:44:46 <jralls> crossan007: Do you mean that having GnuCash running breaks using the clipboard for other applications, e.g. between two Word documents?
17:45:01 <crossan007> Yes!
17:45:12 <crossan007> even regular old Notepad
17:45:48 <jralls> That's pretty wild. GnuCash 4.2?
17:45:58 <crossan007> 3.11
17:46:28 <crossan007> I really need to upgrade hah, but I haven't fully digested the 4.x release notes.
17:46:33 <crossan007> I have 10 years of transactions in a MySQL backend
17:49:27 <jralls> I can't reproduce the problem with 4.2, installing 3.11....
17:49:40 <crossan007> It's not consistent; which, I know - makes it insane to troubleshoot
17:50:00 <crossan007> It's not a show-stopper for me, and I was more curious if anyone's come across it before
17:50:10 <crossan007> I can try to figure out the steps to reproduce.\
17:51:07 <jralls> Nobody has reported anything like that, and it's hard to imagine how just having GnuCash open would interfere with the system clipboard.
17:51:17 <crossan007> I use GNUCash a few times a week for personal finance, and I'd say I've been noticing the issue since maybe 3.9 approximately once or twice a month
17:51:48 <crossan007> jralls: yeah. I'm a developer too, and I can't understand how that would be a real issue. It's a real head-scratcher.
17:53:01 <jralls> OK, so it's probably not just having GnuCash open. There must be something that you did that caused GnuCash to put something on the clipboard that blocks Notepad from replacing it.
17:54:14 <crossan007> I used KeePass to "copy" a password into the clipboard, and that seems to have "un-stuck" my system clipboard
17:54:29 <crossan007> Now I can't get it back to "broken" state haha!
17:55:26 <crossan007> I have a GNUcash Bugzilla account. If I can find the actual steps to reproduce this, I'll open a ticket
17:56:07 <jralls> That would be great, though there's a good chance that it's a Gtk bug rather than a GnuCash one.
18:00:06 <crossan007> That's the only explination I could think of haha. At the very least, If I can open a ticket, we can prevent a future DenverCoder99 from hitting a dead end :-D

19:37:18 <chris> @tell Tom and jralls in the import matcher you can rubberband multiple imported splits to assign to a different account. i often do this after sorting by description.
19:37:18 <gncbot> chris: The operation succeeded.
19:43:02 <jralls> chris, In spite of it being in the middle of trying to figure out a problem with AQBanking Tom said "in an account" which I take to mean a register, not the import matcher.
19:44:12 <jralls> Remember that you can also multi-select with shift-click for contiguous selections and control-click for non-contiguous ones.
19:45:29 <chris> Sure was trying to hint it's easier to modify transfer acct during import rather than after
19:46:44 <chris> Now question on merging branches: do we prefer "Merge branch" commits, or rebase branch from maint and merge commits on top? Former will allow annotations like "#807" which will tell Github to link to discussion. Latter is safer when bisecting I guess.
20:06:07 <jralls> We (meaning gjanssens and I) decided a few years ago that we always want a merge commit on PRs to flag who did the merge, meaning you should use --no-ff. And yes, rebasing breaks the connection to the PR and means that you have to close it manually. That need not apply if you're merging your own PR. In that case rebases or ff merges are fine.
20:06:16 <jralls> GTG time to make dinner.
