04:56:41 <andreas^> hello.
04:56:41 <gncbot> andreas^: Sent 23 hours and 59 minutes ago: <gjanssens> However in the gui, split transaction is used to indicate the transaction consists of more than two splits, and we can't display all those details in a single line.
04:56:42 <gncbot> andreas^: Sent 23 hours and 58 minutes ago: <gjanssens> .in files are source files that need special preprocessing before they can be used. Think of them as template files which need some fields filled in before they make sense.

08:35:58 <Rusty> Hi everybody. I have a question regarding an amortization bond: In my case it has a face value of 1000 and it gets repaid each month by 20,83 which is 0,02083 of 1. My approach to account it was to sell 0,02083 parts, but GnuCash does not allow me to do so.
08:36:31 <Rusty> I tried to play with tradable units in the editor menu, but it doesn't seem to do what I was expecting and always returns to 1 unit, never less. What am I missing?

11:25:31 <andreas^> my head is getting dizzy reading about the five accounts in the docs.
11:31:19 <Rusty> New to accounting?
11:33:38 <andreas^> Rusty: yes.
11:35:25 *** fell_laptop is now known as fell
11:36:36 <Rusty> I am doing only personal finance, but figured it out practicing. Didn't do much theory - you get confused :)
11:37:26 <fell> andreas^, the continental view: 2 classes in the "static" part represented by the balance sheet:
11:38:04 <fell> acitive (assets) and passive (equity and liability.
11:39:14 <fell> the "dynamic part" represented by the in come statement consists of income and expense.
11:41:12 <fell> In double entry accounting nothing is myteriously pop up or disappear.
11:41:26 <Rusty> And the plus and minus depends sometimes on from which side (account) you look...
11:42:51 <fell> Every value has a source (opening balance or income) and a sink (expense)
11:47:40 <Rusty> I never thought I like bookkeeping :D But it's not that difficult. I only have to figure out the reports section...
11:50:39 <chris> reports are *easy* :-)
11:51:44 <Rusty> @chris I guess so, but I haven't figured them out yet...
11:51:44 <gncbot> Rusty: Error: "chris" is not a valid command.
11:53:15 *** Mechtilde has quit IRC
11:53:48 <Rusty> I started to use it only 1 month ago. And have a question about amortization bonds...
11:53:50 *** Mechtilde has joined #gnucash
12:15:09 <fell> Rusty, I would create the bond "the normal way" and then create a scheduled transaction for the maortization.
12:17:01 <fell> amortization
12:22:08 <Rusty> I did try it via sell - but I cannot sell 0,02083 parts of 1 bond...
12:22:50 <Rusty> face value is 1000 and amortization each month 20,83.
12:23:28 <Rusty> So I accounted instead of 1 - 100.000 units and sell 2083. The money is correct, the number of bonds isn't
12:23:37 <Rusty> I am not sure what I am missing there...
12:25:06 <Rusty> I wasn't able to sell units below 1 - GnuCash always changed it back to 1
12:26:35 <fell> Tools->Security editor->Edit<your security>:Fraction traded
12:27:10 <Rusty> 1/100000?
12:27:34 <Rusty> I tried that, but guess I missed something.
12:27:40 <fell> right, adjust it as required
12:28:00 *** andreas^ has quit IRC
12:28:40 <Rusty> Ok, I will try it again. The face value is 1000 and amortization 20,83 ...
12:31:07 *** dtux has joined #gnucash
12:52:49 <Rusty> fell - thanks for the help. It seems to work. I guess I tried to adjust the fractions via the editor only, not when accounting a bond directly. At least my testcase shows that I can sell fractions!
12:57:10 <fell> Rusty, suggestions to improve the docs?

13:35:16 <Rusty> fell I use mostly the German version and there are some misspellings; but so far too complicated to improve (no linux user, no experience with software development). As far as I understood, you have to download and upload to support
13:37:09 <fell> Rusty, your version?
13:38:24 <fell> and your OS
13:39:36 <Rusty> win10, gnucash4.2 (updated today)
13:40:33 <Rusty> I did a description how I accounted bonds and I am ready to update and share it for the wiki (in German)
13:40:41 <Rusty> Maybe it would be of some help for others
13:41:03 <fell> Sicher
13:42:19 <fell> Eine Möglichkeit: https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Simple_Pull_Request
13:43:27 <fell> auf https://github.com/Gnucash/gnucash/blob/maint/po/de.po
13:44:40 <fell> zu der Übersetzung.
13:45:37 <fell> Für die Bond-Geschichte: https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/De/Aktienhandel
13:46:09 <Rusty> Thanks. I will have a closer look and try to support
14:17:04 <fell> Such in de.po nach "tip"
14:18:54 <fell> die starten mit: #: doc/tip_of_the_day.list.c:1
14:24:44 <Rusty> Ok, #: doc/tip_of_the_day.list.c:119 - hier fehlt ein Leerzeichen vor dem " am Ende der Zeile
14:25:22 <Rusty> Wie gehe ich vor?
14:25:47 <fell> Hast du noch mehr?
14:26:00 <Rusty> Immer mal wieder
14:27:19 <Rusty> ok
14:27:26 <fell> Klick auf den Link in Procedere
14:28:51 <Rusty> Ich bin hier: https://github.com/Gnucash/gnucash/blob/maint/po/de.po - wo finde ich hier Procedere?
14:30:53 <fell> rechts oben müßte was wie ""Login/Create account" stehen
14:35:50 <Rusty> ok
14:38:15 <Rusty> Protokoll & Opent with GH Desktop oder Download ZIP
14:39:03 <fell> klick mal das Fragezeichen
14:40:28 <Rusty> Which remote URL should I use?
14:43:26 <fell> Also klick GH-cli - du kannst es ja später immer och installieren.
14:49:22 <fell> Sag mir mal deinen GH namen
14:49:49 <Rusty> RollingRusty
14:50:19 <Rusty> Sorry, bin absolut neu in diesem Bereich
14:56:44 <fell> Egal, nimm irgendein protokoll
15:00:57 <fell> jralls, can you add macOS to https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Online_Quotes#Technical_Details?
15:10:58 <Rusty> Installiere GH Desktop gerade...
15:22:45 <Rusty> fork generieren?
15:23:52 <Rusty> ok, hat möglicherweise doch funktioniert...
15:24:41 <Rusty> not been pushed ...
15:27:09 <fell> Re: fork generieren? Ja
15:28:57 <fell> Das Ziel ist https://github.com/RollingRusty/gnucash
15:29:54 <fell> Das Protokoll kann natürlich variieren
15:29:57 <Rusty> Habe was abgeschickt
