05:29:27 <chris> #784 makes the reports are now more responsive... shows or pulses progressbar during both building and rendering, and can escape lengthy report as long as report updates progressbar.
05:29:45 <chris> the downside is obviously they'll be slower because they'll update UI
05:36:53 <chris> gjanssens if you wish to try #784 the best report is Asset>General Reports which creates a huge HTML, and try press <Escape> during either build or render.

06:16:07 <gjanssens> chris: it's nice you're working on that.
06:16:25 <gjanssens> I'll see if I can play with it later.
06:17:09 <gjanssens> As to your proposed implementations, I am more in favour of implementing it lower level, so it can be applied more broadly. Don't know if that is the route you chose eventually.
06:17:31 *** Mechtilde has joined #gnucash
06:20:23 <chris> kinda low level. all reports are cancellable as long as they update the progressbar (most do). other C functions are more challenging eg Scrub.c doesn't have access to UI so they'll need to receive a callback to test cancellation status.
06:21:45 <chris> there'll be difference between report building - they usually know splitlist length therefore can set fraction - and rendering - too difficult to get number of objects so the fraction is >100 therefore sets progressbar to pulse

07:17:46 <chris> I hope the distiction between building & rendering is clear -- building creates html-document from html-text/table etc. rendering creates html-string using html-object renderers.
07:22:36 <chris> currently the RENDERING part tends to create a progressbar with only 1 slice - 50% - because the 1 object contains all the subobjects. the #784 is designed to pulse progressbar after every 1000 objects rendered.
07:22:56 <chris> result - pulses much nicer than the current progressbar
07:26:03 <chris> the cost of this niceness is that I've changed for-each to for-each-cancellable to enable the 'nicer' behaviour

07:42:20 <chris> but definitely makes reports quite a bit slower, so I have doubts

14:26:55 <rjwiii> Hello ... doing a custom check printing setup. I see the SPLITS_ACCOUNT field that is used on the stub of the check as the "Category". There's also a spot for "Account" on the stub and I'd like to print the source account. Is there a field for that?
