14:52:25 <sunyibo[m]> Hi! I'm looking for stocks on the Swiss Market Index. However, I can only see NASDAQ, EUREX and such. What can I do?
14:53:26 <jralls_laptop> If you mean in the security editor you can create any group you like. The pre-populated ones are just suggestions.

15:26:28 <jralls> Depends on what you want to manage. For tracking the value of long-term investments it works well. It doesn't work well with day-trading and the only analysis tool is the Advanced Portfolio Report.

15:29:12 <jralls> Which, by the way, is finicky about how you set up your accounts and how you book things like dividends. There's not much documentation for it, but someone has written https://codesmythe.gitbooks.io/gnucash-guide/en/ch_invest.html. It's been discussed a lot on the mailing lists as well, so do a web search for "GnuCash advanced portfolio report".

21:06:12 <n08l3J> I am not sure if this is a bug or I am doing anything wrong, but during import, the Transfer Account field can't seem to match the account name from csv file with the internal saved ones.
21:07:20 <n08l3J> I tried adding account code, Assets:myAccount name, myAccount name in the Transfer Account column, but it keep saying in the dialog, "No Linked Account" for the account id imported from CSV
21:08:01 <n08l3J> However, Once i manually assign a linked account, it seems to remember that for future entries. Any idea why this might be happening?
21:09:39 *** Agfarmer18 has quit IRC
21:12:38 <warlord> n08l3J, when you import, there are two accounts involved with every transaction, the "current' account and the "other" account. Generally, all txns in a CSV have the same "current" account but may have different "other" accounts.
21:13:34 <warlord> During the import it tried to assing the "current" account, and when it *thinks* it knows the "other" account it will use it or ask you to assign it.
21:13:39 <warlord> And once you do, it remembers it.
21:14:19 <n08l3J> hm.. I was following this -> https://www.gnucash.org/docs/v3/C/gnucash-help/trans-import.html
21:14:34 <n08l3J> In the dialog at top left, I was assigning the Cash account
21:15:04 <n08l3J> while in the Import, I was selecting the Transfer Account as shown there. Where do I select the current account?
21:16:28 <warlord> Have you read the tutorials about double-entry accounting?
21:16:41 <n08l3J> Yes I did
21:18:07 <n08l3J> Is there a place, where I missed it, I was under impression the top right corner Account is the "From" and the account from file is "To"
21:18:59 <warlord> Honestly, I am not 100% familiar with the UI as I don't use the importer.
21:19:26 <warlord> And I've never used the CSV import.

21:20:11 <n08l3J> No worries warlord, Thanks for replying.
21:20:28 <n08l3J> Is there a place to submit a bug report?
21:20:33 <warlord> n08l3J, one thing I can suggest is that you can try an import and if you dont like it you can quit wihtout saving and try again
21:20:57 <warlord> I'm not sure this is a bug, yet. But to answer your question: bugs.gnucash.org
21:21:55 <n08l3J> Eventually, I manually assigned the accounts from the gui and it seems to be happy now. But yeah, I am extremely careful in saving only when I know things are good
21:23:50 <warlord> You should be able to assign accounts from the importer.
21:24:01 <warlord> If you dont it wont learn properly.

21:31:39 <n08l3J> Another question guys, Do you know if Gnucash automatically calculate the discount for bills paid to vendors as set by terms?
21:33:04 <warlord> No, it does not.
21:33:52 <warlord> It's there to record the "desire", but discounts need to (currently) be applied manually.
21:37:20 <n08l3J> Got it warlord
21:37:41 *** jim has quit IRC
21:38:15 <n08l3J> warlord, Is there a location where features for future releases are kept?
21:40:33 <warlord> n08l3J, Good question. There's a release timeline (check the wiki). But really what gets into each release is kind of based on what the devs have time to do.
21:42:07 <n08l3J> warlord, that wiki page contains Goals that are quite cryptic for an average user :)
