02:38:10 <Jake> Hi, I'm having issues getting GNUCash to add up my GST correctly. I'm trying to use the 3 account system but GNUCash seems to just add up the total value of the numbers I enter into each category, disregarding whether they have a positive or negative value. Changing the account type to asset/liability doesn't seem to make any difference. Can I get help?
02:43:22 <Jake> I've extensively read the documentation online but just can't seem to get it to work. Any help or pointing me in the right direction would be much appreciated!

03:17:03 <gncbot> gjanssens: Sent 9 hours and 12 minutes ago: <jralls> Re branching, that's a well-reasoned argument for option 2. You're right that there's nothing gained by merging c++options in before releasing 4.0 and I think that's likely true of any other not-ready-enough feature branches that others might have lurking.
03:17:04 <gncbot> gjanssens: Sent 8 hours and 28 minutes ago: <chris> I don't have further work planned for maint's income-gst-statement.scm -- I think it means I can merge #500 in master anytime soon

08:15:15 <chris_> gjanssens: I'm keeping an eye on ChartJS. they have released 3.0.0-alpha. There are some breaking changes, but none that are difficult. I worry about 2 options: (1) stay on v2.9 forever or (2) migrate to 3.0 when they release it... and I suppose I'd be the one forefronting the migration. Am I right that it'd be better to migrate so that in the future any future hacker won't have to
08:15:17 <chris_> do it?
08:15:26 <chris_> https://github.com/chartjs/Chart.js/releases and https://www.chartjs.org/docs/next/getting-started/v3-migration.html
08:20:56 <gjanssens> chris_: does chartjs have a roadmap with a planned release date ?
08:21:18 <gjanssens> What you can do regardless is to try the migration work in a branch.
08:22:34 <gjanssens> That allows us to merge it when we're ready for it. Which can be for 4.x if they release soon and the migration is smooth or for 5.x otherwise
08:24:10 <chris_> I am not sure they have a release date.
08:24:23 <chris_> I don't think there are major feature improvements. A few performance boosts. Which means we could stay on 2.9 forever without issues. But then in 10 years time someone will need to deal with the technical and documentation debt.
08:25:14 <chris_> wrt the licensing issues for guile-json I'm hoping srfi-180 will be released anytime soon.
08:27:39 <chris_> their roadmap: https://github.com/chartjs/Chart.js/issues/6598

16:23:33 <jim> I went to sourceforge.net, downloaded and extracted the documentation. Make a build directory, cmake pointing to /opt. Then make install. This move files to /opt directories. Started gnucash, and F1 brought up the help file. jralis, you hint got me on the right track.

16:39:47 <jim> jralls: This was my first try at building a package. I was a unix developer many years ago, and a recent convert back from Windows. The tools are much more sophisticated than year ago. The fact that gnucash was available on linux help spur me to try to return to the platform. I am so happy I did. May laptop preforms much better than with Windows. It has also been a great way to use my time while staying home during the pandemic.
