12:47:14 <jralls> chris, those functions don't traverse, they do a lookup in the book's object hashtables (implemented in qofid.cpp) after converting the text guid stored in the GncLot's KVP. Not the greatest design, but it's driven by having the association in KVP: We can't store pointers there.
12:54:38 <chris> ok. I figured they looked difficult to cache.

15:46:54 <CharlesIC> hi hello
15:46:56 <CharlesIC> anyone around?
15:46:58 <CharlesIC> jralls,
16:08:56 <Mechtilde> CharlesIC, what is your question?
16:09:23 <CharlesIC> i was posting on the mailing list and trying to figure out the best way to do this in gnucash
16:09:39 <CharlesIC> i have a home office and can thus get reimburseed from my business for around 10% of various things
16:09:52 <CharlesIC> but im having issues on how to organize this in gnucash
16:10:03 <CharlesIC> right now i have a checking account and credit card, which are used to pay expenses such as utilities
16:10:32 <CharlesIC> and for instance, the checking account transfers from expenses:house:utilities:electricity
16:10:36 <CharlesIC> which is listed as an expense
16:10:49 <CharlesIC> that shows 100% of the charge
16:11:10 <CharlesIC> i then had a separate account showing the 10%(or in the case of cell phone, 60%)
16:11:37 <CharlesIC> i had it listed as an expense, but it really shouldn't be. and it transfers from asset:money to be reimbursed by business
16:12:04 <CharlesIC> the problem is, when i get reimbursed, it transfers between checking and the asset:money to be reimbursed, and it's increasing the amount, not decreasing
16:12:10 <CharlesIC> so it's showing the opposite of what i want
16:12:50 <CharlesIC> my issue is how to reflect that 10%, etc in gnucash
16:12:56 <CharlesIC> and how to manipulate it when it's paid
16:13:40 <CharlesIC> does that make sense?
16:14:07 <CharlesIC> 1. electricity is paid from checking account for $100 - transfer from house:expenses:electricity
16:14:42 <CharlesIC> 2. due to home office, I can get reimbursed 10% of that electricity amount from my business
16:15:14 <CharlesIC> 3. I annotate what 10% is in a separate account: expenses: expenses personally paid - which i think is wrong
16:15:31 <CharlesIC> 4. that transfers from assets: debts owed by business
16:16:10 <CharlesIC> 5. reimbursements from business go to checking account, but if i have them transfer between assets:debts owed by business, the number goes the wrong way and decreases the negative amount
16:16:26 <Mechtilde> how would you do it on paper?
16:16:57 <CharlesIC> i mean, i was told on mailing list to do split transactions, but i dont think that is correct because im not sure which accounts they would trnasfer from
16:17:16 <CharlesIC> i also dont know if i need 3 accounts to do this or 4
16:17:19 <CharlesIC> right now i have 4
16:17:50 *** KevinDB has quit IRC
16:17:58 <CharlesIC> but if i have 3, what account do i put for transfer for the 10% of the electric bill?
16:18:09 <CharlesIC> i know i'd put checking account for transfer for the reimbursement check

16:28:19 <keiffer> Evening all! Certain this has been noticed before, but was wondering if there is a work around. I've noticed when v3.7.1 is started on a mac that GC previous account register shows "today's" date in the last entry, in blue (highlighted) as if it's ready for input. However, <tab>, <shift-tab>, and whatever key is pressed, nothing happens. The only way to get a response is to use the mouse to select the entry. Which then allows fur

17:56:30 <jralls> CharlesIC: You said on the mailing list that you understood Mike Novack's explanation so I guess you're OK now.
17:58:42 <jralls> @tell keiffer Doesn't work that way for me, but perhaps some other application has focus. Is GnuCash's menu in the menu bar?
17:58:42 <gncbot> jralls: The operation succeeded.
