07:20:33 <warlord> HEY, there's gncbot!!
07:21:57 <warlord> And it was clearly a network outage, not a power outage... server uptime is 111 days
07:24:00 <chris> maybe I'm much more OCD than older hackers
07:24:02 <chris> oops
07:24:18 <chris> rather worrying that gncbot has a will on its own
07:52:35 <warlord> Hahah. sometimes I feel that way.
07:52:36 *** warlord sets mode: +o gncbot
07:52:49 <warlord> Anyways, I need to run to meet the movers. TTFN.

11:08:31 <gjanssens> jralls: FYI I couldn't resist digging a bit deeper anyway into the test failures on Windows
11:09:35 <gjanssens> Good news is I was able to get the gnc-module ones running properly, but all tests requiring a guile environment would hang indefinitely
11:10:06 <gjanssens> So I put these experiments aside on a local branch for future study
11:11:09 <gjanssens> One curious tidbit that may or may not be related is this: when I open a jhbuild shell and then run cmake to configure our build environment that will also consistently hang when checking guile
11:11:12 *** User_ has quit IRC
11:11:30 <gjanssens> However when doing a jhbuild build, the cmake step works fine
11:11:46 <gjanssens> I have no idea so far what the cause could be
11:12:10 <gjanssens> This evening we have guests so I won't be around for further discussion unfortunately

15:50:43 <jralls> oliver, for Linux you'll need to use the nightly build flatpak.

19:53:47 <Robert847> Hi From time to time I somehow get into a state in Ubuntu 18.04 where GnuCash 2.6.19 seems to fail to completely finish a file save. It gets to a point where the save button is grey but it is almost completely locked up. It is in that state right now. It will respond to certain keystrokes. There is a highlight in a transaction which will move if I press tab
19:53:47 <gncbot> Robert847: Sent 3 weeks, 1 day, 6 hours, and 35 minutes ago: <jralls> make sure that you have the splash screen turned on in preferences>general. No splash screen means that GnuCash has nothing to display while its starting up and loading your file.
19:55:51 *** storyjesse has quit IRC
19:59:17 <Robert847> Hmm... I don't remember what problem I had that triggered the splash screen message, but I have not turned it off in any instance in the past several years. Continuing with today's problem, I was able to use keystrokes alone to change several values in a transction and save it by tabbing out, thus getting the asterisk in the filename in the menubar
20:03:04 <Robert847> So now the focus in the Gnucash window is frozen but the rest of Linux appears to be unaffected. If I mouse over GnuCash and type Alt-F, nothing happens. If I mouse over LibreOffice Calc, Alf-F S will attempt to save the file
20:03:42 <Robert847> Mouse clicks do nothing in GnuCash
20:06:03 *** guak has quit IRC
20:06:46 <Robert847> Now the highlight in the GnuCash window is frozen in the action box of the transaction after the one I edited and now the tab key stopped working too.
20:11:21 <Robert847> Checked my log. That was a problem where it took so long for the splash screen to appear that I accidentally started a second instance, then there were 2 instances running
20:13:34 <Robert847> Back to today, now the Automagic backup prompt has appeared, so I will see if I can click OK
20:14:44 <Robert847> I clicked yes, this time and the menu greyed out and GnuCash seems to be saving the file.
20:16:33 <Robert847> LibreOffice also has a file open on the same network drive and it seems to be working at normal speed
20:19:03 <Robert847> Now that GnuCash has completed the file save it seems to have become responsive acain. Now the mouse can control the focus, Alt-F opens the File menu
20:26:10 *** omnireq has joined #gnucash
20:26:23 <Robert847> So GnuCash seems to be back to accepting user input normally after deciding on it's own to put up the Automagic backup prompt and allowing me to respond to that prompt
20:29:43 <Robert847> At least I didn't have to reboot the machine, but I do suspect that GnuCash was in some sort of loop where it was not looking for user input until afer it got the automagic time interrupt.
20:32:11 <Robert847> Odd that even the Alt-F key couldn't bring up the menu, tho
