01:11:43 <simba> Hi, I imported my 2018 history from my bank website, and all the transactions require categorizing, they default to "imbalance-usd", is it possible to do this in a bulk way? For example I'd like to have everything for Digital Ocean going to Expenses: Server Hosting
01:19:58 *** nimish2711 has joined #gnucash
01:33:12 <fell> simba: ideally you would assign the accounts while importing. This way GnuCash will "lern" your associatins.
01:34:08 <fell> learn
01:34:24 <fell> associations
01:43:55 <simba> fell: I did but it didn't seem to do that
01:44:09 <simba> oh maybe I didn't, I think I know what you mean
01:44:18 <simba> is there no way to do it in bulk after importing?

01:48:49 <fell> Not after importing, but before, depending on the format in which you got them.

01:50:53 <fell> Once I had a database, which set the accounts depending on the description and saved the result as QIF again.
01:53:24 <simba> ugh
01:53:32 <simba> im already halfway through doing it manually
01:56:09 <fell> do it in small chunks of a month
01:57:00 <fell> then you can use the learning from the first chunk in the later chunks.
01:58:50 <simba> I'm testing doing it on import in a new book, how do I select more than one at a time?
01:59:14 <simba> I see I can sort them by name but it seems I need to click each one to set it
02:01:56 <simba> Are you saying break the imports into monthly?
02:02:21 <fell> yep
02:03:17 <simba> I see, perhaps that'd be easier than doing it all manually, I can skip all the personal stuff too I'm just trying to sort out my business expenses for deductions. 2019 will be easier becaue I started using two checking accounts
02:04:05 <simba> Do you know if QFX offers any advantages over CSV? Cause I can manually edit the CSV rather than using my bank's crappy webapp to download 12 files for each account
02:07:51 <simba> nvm I will just use qfx, seems easier despite having to use the banks thing
02:07:57 <fell> I don't know much about QFX, but in general I would assume the accounting specific formats are more powrfull. OTOH the bank download is usually very simple as they do not know, how you will split a transaction e.g. in net and tax.
02:12:09 <fell> in above URL see 3.1.2.2. Assign a Destination Account to Multiple Transactions

04:22:12 <gjanssens> mikee: :) I hope you had a good time
04:22:12 <gncbot> gjanssens: Sent 10 hours and 40 minutes ago: <jralls> Thanks. I'm pretty new to php, I have no idea what was needed for php2 when the website was written. It's probably way past time to redo it for php7.
04:23:13 <gjanssens> jralls: I only have some basic php knowledge myself, but I agree it may be time for a website update
04:24:08 <gjanssens> I have had some interest in exploring webdesign using a decent cms a while back, but that interest is gone due to lack of time
04:24:20 <gjanssens> So I'll leave it for someone else

21:51:47 <chris> @tell gjanssens I've been thinking it wouldn't be wrong to upgrade transaction.scm to report-system/trep-engine.scm, which means transaction.scm becomes a thin wrapper to it, reconcile-report.scm is spun off, and general-ledger.scm and income-gst-statement.scm also amended.
21:51:47 <gncbot> chris: The operation succeeded.
22:02:50 <chris> @tell gjanssens the next question is where should saved style-sheets belong? I'll see about converting to json. I guess global is fine?
