13:15:04 <jralls> chris: Remember, the goal is to excise Scheme from everywhere except reports... for now.
13:18:38 <jralls> gjanssens: I think it would be pretty simple to rewrite price-quotes.scm in c++. It might actually be easiest to call F::Q directly from C++ without gnc-fq-helper in the middle.
13:21:43 <gjanssens> jralls: I agree

13:42:28 <gjanssens> Yeah :D
13:42:57 * gjanssens has started with my preliminary research for configuring my server(s)
13:43:34 <gjanssens> Found some interesting technologies along the way like ZFS and Gluster (to combine with oVirt)
13:44:06 <warlord> I'm not sure I would trust ZFS on Linux, yet.
13:44:29 <warlord> I just use XFS over LVM over md-RAID-1

13:53:35 <gjanssens> warlord: I'm reading mostly positive things about it.
13:54:01 <gjanssens> The other option would be btrfs, but their raid5/6 support is still considered beta
13:54:45 <gjanssens> The good parts of zfs/btrfs are self-healing and low level snapshotting
13:55:12 <gjanssens> The former helps in preventing data loss, the latter in simplifying backups
13:55:35 <gjanssens> I'll be running some tests first in either case
13:56:07 <gjanssens> Another one that made me shy away from btrfs is RedHat will be dropping support for it in RHEL8
13:56:14 <warlord> I wouldn't use brtfs even if my life depended on it
13:56:28 <warlord> For one, it lies to DU and DF!
13:56:36 <gjanssens> Neither would I ATM
13:56:49 <gjanssens> But I hope to see it improve anyway for the future
13:57:54 <gjanssens> Or see zfs be included in mainline linux, though that will only happen if it gets relicensed to be gpl compatible
13:58:07 <gjanssens> It doesn't look that will happen anytime soon though :(
13:58:14 *** fell has joined #gnucash
13:58:20 <warlord> right..
13:58:28 <warlord> so xfs it is
14:00:12 <gjanssens> I recently read that OpenZFS started tracking the linux variant of zfs rather than the bsd one as the linux variant was evolving at a faster pace
14:00:30 <warlord> interesting.

14:38:23 <chf> I'm using mostly ext4 now, but xfs is fine.
14:39:59 <chf> I do not trust any version of reiserfs, I've been experiencing major failures repeatedly.

14:43:33 <warlord> reiserfs is extremely unstable, and always has been. And god forbid you have a power outage -- you're likely to lose your FS
15:08:32 <jralls> Reiser turned out to be unstable too. :-(

15:29:41 <warlord> jralls, I'm trying to separate the person from the technology.
15:31:00 <jralls> Is the technology still under development? I had the impression that the person's arrest rather put an end to it and I was a bit surprised for it to be mentioned 10 years later.
15:38:28 <warlord> well, it is still in the kernel.. so i'm sure still being maintained
15:41:45 <warlord> But of course, maintained != "under development"

15:55:02 <gjanssens> jralls, warlord: I heard over on linux unplugged recently a new version of reiserfs was released (by Reiser's wife apparently)
15:55:42 <gjanssens> I don't trust it still though
15:55:54 <jralls> That last part would be spooky. Reiser's current residence is San Quentin, thanks to being convicted of strangling said wife.
15:57:11 <warlord> maybe he re-married?
15:58:59 <gjanssens> Yeah, I don't know the exact details. I only listened absent mindedly
15:59:20 <gjanssens> Perhaps it was girlfriend rather than wife
16:00:09 <jralls> Guys, he's serving life in prison for murder. New wives or girlfriends are pretty unlikely.
16:00:44 <jralls> Though wikipedia says he's first eligible for parole next year.
16:00:54 <gjanssens> :) It doesn't really matter
16:01:29 <gjanssens> I may even have been about Reiser4 which is ReiserFS's successor and not included in mainline kernel
16:01:47 <gjanssens> So "someone" is still working on patches
16:02:22 <warlord> Not me ;)
16:02:55 <jralls> Maybe what you saw mentioned was https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reiser4, a resierfs successor that's still being maintained.
16:03:26 <jralls> The article says "it is unlikely to be merged into Linux without corporate backing".
16:03:44 <gjanssens> I guess so, and read the same wiki page minutes ago
16:04:00 <gjanssens> They do continue to release for new kernel versions though: https://sourceforge.net/projects/reiser4/files/reiser4-for-linux-4.x/
16:04:18 <gjanssens> And that's enough distraction as far as I'm concerned
16:04:24 <gjanssens> Back to zfs experiments

17:40:29 <Unhammer> I've been using btrfs for five years or so for my girlfriend's photo business backups. She keeps deleting stuff by mistake, so I've had lots of chances to try recovering files. Haven't had a single data loss so far. But I don't use raid, just plain btrfs (under LUKS) on big external usb drives that i rotate
