10:39:34 <chris> jralls which branch should 792800 be patched? maint, or master (after gnc-numeric eradication)? and given that it's spaghetti code, another spaghetti beacon won't harm?
10:41:48 <chris> I can't even begin to untangle the mess, see https://github.com/christopherlam/gnucash/commits/master-fix-792800 for debugging code and some refactoring
10:42:11 <chris> my preference would be to do basic refactoring, and also fix the SCU issue
10:42:28 <chris> from master-without-gnc-numeric

11:12:41 <FrenchWolfie> Hello, I'd like to know how to have my global preferences saved on W10. Permission is consistently denied

11:15:01 <FrenchWolfie> Hello to all of course. I'm new here, and need help as a user. Am I at the right place ?

11:51:50 <jralls> chris: The bug is against 2.7.x so unstable would be OK, but if you want to do it in maint and merge up that would be OK too.
11:54:13 <jralls> @tell FrenchWolfie Yeah, you're in the right place, but you have to hang around long enough for someone to notice your question. GnuCash preferences are saved in the Windows Registry, but I don't know offhand whether it's in HKCU or HKLM.
11:54:13 <gncbot> jralls: The operation succeeded.

14:55:13 <warlord> jralls: nothing new since my last message.
14:55:47 <warlord> Well, there was a response on Saturday (to -devel). nothing since then
14:55:59 <warlord> Ande says it's running 4.4.3
14:56:03 <warlord> 4.4.13
14:56:16 <warlord> But the dump scripts return a 404
14:58:45 <jralls> Hmm, I didn't get the response to devel, nor is it in the archive.
15:01:17 <jralls> I suspect that Andre's told us what he knows. No response from bugmaster. That might be one or more RedHat employees and they'll respond tomorrow when they're back at work.

15:40:51 <threex5> Hi gnucash people. I have connected my gnucash to my bank account, and I'm trying to pull down my balance, but the log says I'm stuck at 'Resetting provider queries'. The program was able to connect to my online service but now it appears to be frozen. Any ideas?
15:42:37 <jralls> threex5: OFX Direct or HBCI?
15:44:19 <threex5> thanks for the reply, jralls. OFX.
15:47:57 <jralls> It says that when it's done, but if you have "leave open when finished" checked in the log dialog then it doesn't go away until you tell it to close. I suppose it hasn't presented the matcher window or a dialog saying that nothing was retrieved?
15:49:41 <threex5> I see, thanks jralls. The issue is that it's not retrieving anything
15:49:47 <threex5> from balance or transactions
15:50:12 <jralls> Did it put up a dialog box saying that or is it actually hung?
15:50:28 <jralls> And what else does it say in the log dialog box?
15:50:47 <threex5> I think I was mistaken. Unless I manually open the log window, it will run and close on its own
15:51:34 <threex5> If I get transactions it just says there's none for this period, even if the period is as far back as possible until today
15:52:26 <threex5> ok hold on
15:52:29 <threex5> something is happening now
15:53:14 <threex5> ok
15:53:26 <threex5> it started working, nevermind
15:53:40 <threex5> it says i need to reconcile the account against the local balance which is 0
15:53:47 <threex5> this is the part when i go rtfm
15:53:51 <threex5> anyway thank you for your help
15:53:58 <jralls> If there are a lot of transactions and you have a lot of history then it takes a while for the matcher to do its thing.

15:57:22 <threex5> ok
15:57:27 <threex5> well I already screwed up my balance book
15:57:47 <threex5> is there a quick way to start over without having to also set up the online banking connections again?
15:58:25 <threex5> I just want to clear all my manual entries and retrieved data, keeping the accounts I put in. then pull the transactions again and reconcile them
15:58:52 <jralls> Are you using XML? You can just click File>Revert and it'll undo everything since your last save.
16:00:01 <jralls> If you've already saved you can do File>Export>Export Accounts, which will get you a new file with the same account tree but nothing else.
16:00:45 <threex5> great, thanks a mil
16:01:21 <jralls> Or if you had the presence of mind to save right after creating the accounts you can go back to that file. GnuCash keeps old files. They're in the same directory with the same name followed by a timestamp.
16:02:37 <threex5> right I saw. the export worked like a charm
16:14:47 *** frakturfreak has quit IRC
16:24:25 <threex5> It looks like what happens is, you pull the transactions from the bank, it also give you a balance, but the balance is off from the transactions because the transactions just record everything in and out from whatever starting date you specified
16:24:46 <threex5> so unless your account was $0 on the starting date, the balance is always going to be off

16:32:01 *** O01eg has joined #gnucash
17:04:28 <jralls> threex5: Unless the balance in your account matched the bank's on the starting date the balance is going to differ. If it's your first download into an empty account then the out-of-balance amount is what you should put in as the opening balance.
17:05:12 <threex5> ok thanks, jralls
