07:43:03 <fell> karelk: it depends on the type of "paid tax".
07:44:54 <fell> If you are registered to pay VAT, then Vat, which is part of your paid bills, is an asset.
07:47:00 <fell> and will reduce the amount you will have to pay from collected tax in your invoices (which are a liability to the tax office).
07:48:31 <fell> In a totally different case, you might want to track taxes, you paid in advance and want to track ...
07:50:15 <fell> Then you could collect them also as an asset until they are exactly calculated and due.

13:15:12 <RandomGuyOnIrc> I am supposed to open an "equity" account, with a non 0 opening balance. I can't enter an opening balance. The box is grayed out. If I go to the "opening balance" account, I can't create an entry from that account, to my new account. How can I enter an opening balance?

14:39:46 <jralls> RandomGuyOnIRC: What would balance this supposed Equity opening balance?
14:40:54 *** bob_ has quit IRC
14:44:07 <jralls> The Opening Balance box is greyed out because you can't cr two Equity accounts, and Opening Balances is also Equity. I imagine that some of your assets are actually attributable equity, perhaps "retained earnings". In that case you want to split the Opening transactions in your Asset accounts and assign the attributable amount to the Equity account you're supposed to create and the rest to Equity:Opening Balances.
14:52:38 <jralls> warlord: Did you get a reply from Carlos Sorianos? Note that I have a Gnome ID and can open an issue on Gnome/Infrastructure if he wants us to or if you don't hear back from him soon.
14:58:23 <warlord> Yes, he CC'd Andre Klapper --- of course the reply bounced from -core since it's a closed group. Clearly I should have used -devel.
14:59:13 <jralls> It would have bounced from there. Andre hangs out in #gnome, you might pop over there.
14:59:51 <jralls> Sorry, unclear: Carlos's reply would have bounced from any of the groups including devel.
15:01:20 <jralls> Carlos is in #gnome too, csoriano; Andre Klapper is andre.
15:07:16 <warlord> At least in -devel it would have gone into the moderation queue.
15:07:29 *** frakturfreak has joined #gnucash
15:07:31 <warlord> The -core list rejected it immediately. There is no moderation on -core.
15:07:39 <jralls> OIC.
15:14:47 <warlord> I will redirect any followups to -devel
15:14:55 <jralls> OK.
15:16:22 <warlord> Ah, I did get a response from Andre at 10:48am -- I missed it.
15:16:45 <warlord> He added bugmaster at gnome dot org
15:17:11 <warlord> Apparently there is also an API:
15:17:11 <warlord> https://www.bugzilla.org/docs/4.4/en/html/api/Bugzilla/WebService/Bug.html
15:18:08 <jralls> Yes, but those docs are too new. Gnome uses a slightly hacked BZ3.0.
15:19:01 <jralls> https://github.com/GNOME/bugzilla.gnome.org
15:23:07 <warlord> Okay, responded back to Andre et al, and changed -core to -devel

15:55:41 <jralls> warlord: The docs for the BZ3.0 bug API are https://www.bugzilla.org/docs/3.0/html/api/Bugzilla/WebService/Bug.html
15:57:54 <jralls> Or perhaps more useful: https://www.bugzilla.org/docs/3.0/html/api/Bugzilla/WebService.html
15:57:55 *** ncv has quit IRC
15:58:24 <jralls> Note however that those document Perl functions, not an HTTP API.
15:59:11 *** fabior has quit IRC
15:59:28 <jralls> Which is also true of the 4.4 docs that Andre linked.
15:59:41 <warlord> Sure. But it's also all "Experimental"
16:01:24 <jralls> Actual REST API is described here: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Bugzilla:REST_API.
16:03:02 <jralls> But when I try an example pointed at Gnome, https://bugzilla.gnome.org/rest/bug?792105, I get "The requested URL /rest/bug was not found on this server.".
16:03:04 <warlord> According to that page (which is for BZ5.0),, the older BzAPI only supported 3.4 and higher.
16:03:40 <warlord> And BzAPI was "separate server software", not builtin

16:57:10 <RandomGuyOnIrc> @jralls, just got back and read your reply about attributable equity, thanks
16:57:10 <gncbot> RandomGuyOnIrc: Error: "jralls," is not a valid command.
16:57:50 <jralls> RandomGuyOnIrc: Our supybot thinks anything starting with an at-sign is a command.
16:57:57 <RandomGuyOnIrc> I see :)
17:01:37 <warlord> I suppose we could change that character..
17:03:48 <jralls> warlord: If it's configurable we probably should. Its use as an address has gotten to ingrained.
17:05:08 <jralls> Not sure what would be a good replacement, though.
17:05:21 <warlord> It only initiates if it's the first character of the line, so it wont notice @jralls here
17:06:01 <jralls> Ah, in that case how about &?
17:06:31 <jralls> Though I was going to propose ∞, but that's probably not easy to type unless you're on a Mac.
17:13:01 <warlord> I can't even see what character that is... Infinity?

21:05:17 <znoteer_> Hi, I'm new to GnuCash. I'm trying to get acquainted with it by working through the tutorial and concepts guide. This is with version 2.6.15 on debian 9. I'm on the "credit card" chapter. I can't get the reports to work like in the tutorial. In the tuto there's a cash flow report for the credit card account that shows the selected accounts as Liabilities:Visa. When I follow the instructions, I get
21:05:23 <znoteer_> a cash flow report for the selected accounts Assets:XXX. I can't find the way to get the cash flow report for the Liabilities:Visa account. Any pointers?

21:18:35 <warlord> znoteer_: did you edit the report options and select the L:Visa account?

21:25:42 <warlord> Click on the report options toolbar icon. It looks like a wrench.
21:28:43 <znoteer_> warlord: brilliant! Thanks, that's exactly what I was looking for (but nowhere near where I was looking for it :) )
21:59:25 <warlord> Happy to help!
