11:54:38 <omnireq> I'm trying to transition from Quicken (Win) to the latest stable Gnucash (Mint). I need multi-currency support. When I try to set a rate manually via Tools/Price Editor, I can Apply ok but when I click OK it seems to crash Gnucash. I reopen and I have go read-only/save-as in order to reopen the file. (Note, Gnucash is not listed as running in System Monitor after the crash). This happens even on a brand new file. I tried setting it up for
11:54:39 <omnireq> auto-retrieval as per https://www.gnucash.org/docs/v2.6/C/gnucash-guide/invest-stockprice1.html#invest-stockprice-auto2 but my /usr/bin has no gnc-fq-update (just check, dump, and helper). I did a system-wide search for gnc-fq-update with no results. Kinda at a loss here. I feel like I must be missing something.

12:08:20 <jralls> omnireq: Some distros strip out gnc-fq-update for some reason, possibly because they think that you should use their package manager to update it. No matter, it's just a very simple perl script. You can accomplish the same by running `sudo cpan Date::Manip Finance::Quote` from the terminal, entering your password, and accepting the defaults to any questions.
12:09:39 <omnireq> Thanks, I'll give it a try, one sec
12:12:59 <jralls> omnireq: As for the crash, what actual GnuCash version do you have?
12:13:53 <omnireq> 2.6.12, installed from the Mint repository
12:15:18 <omnireq> It installed fine it seems. Tested with fresh file, clicking get quotes now says no commodities marked for retrieval, so that's good. The crash still happens though.
12:16:39 <jralls> OK, that's https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=766028, which has been fixed. 2.6.12 is far from the "latest stable GnuCash"; that's 2.6.19.
12:17:47 <omnireq> I just noticed that. My apologies, been working too long...when I checked before posting I somehow read .12 and .19 as the same thing...
12:20:14 <jralls> The fix for that bug is in 2.6.13.
12:20:26 <omnireq> I'll figure out getting .19 installed tomorrow morning (it's super late where I am). Thanks for the help with the Perl bit jralls
12:20:38 <jralls> You're welcome.

13:50:05 <gjanssens> fell: there's another side effect of using the msgmerge and msgattrib commands as described in https://www.gnu.org/software/gettext/manual/html_node/Using-Compendia.html#Using-Compendia
13:50:36 <gjanssens> All the unused (old) translations are removed from the po files.
13:50:52 <gjanssens> In a way that's a good thing as it removes a lot of cruft.
13:51:06 <gjanssens> I just want to be sure this is ok with you before i proceed...
13:52:47 <fell> gjanssens, I think it is OK.
13:53:31 <gjanssens> Ok, then I'm ready to push my changes.
13:53:50 <fell> There should not be so many string which we changed forward and backward.
13:54:40 <gjanssens> FYI, I have started with merging the current gnucash.pot file in all po files in a separate commit
13:54:40 <gjanssens> I'm aware this is normally not done
13:54:40 <gjanssens> But in this case it was a prerequisite to get the goffice msgid's into the po files in the first place...
13:55:28 <fell> You could add a note in the commit message
13:57:32 <gjanssens> I did
13:57:36 <gjanssens> Changes pushed
13:59:26 <fell> Thanks!
13:59:59 <fell> In between I found my former notes in https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Translation#Borrowing_Code
14:00:22 <gjanssens> fell: what do you want me to add to the translations wiki page and where ?
14:00:22 <gjanssens> I have scripted the import action so it can be repeated if necessary in the future
14:02:51 <fell> We have 2 cases: 1.Someone starts with a new language : https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Translation#Build_a_new_.po_file

14:04:10 <fell> 2. Adding a new package in #Borrowing_Code
14:06:43 <gjanssens> fell: I have updated the Borrowing Code part. Can you check if the added content is useful ?
14:08:39 <gjanssens> warlord: I think my most recent push was so big it caused the change message to become too big. I suspect it's stuck in your mail system (or mailman moderation queue?)
14:08:53 <gjanssens> At least I didn't see it come through yet...
14:11:17 <gjanssens> fell: the script can probably be refined to work for a single po file as well and to not expect po files to be in a particular directory. But I won't have time for that this evening...

18:07:14 <Robert> Hi. I just had GnuCash release 2.6.18 crash in Windows 10 while trying to replay a log file that it had created about 18 hours ago
18:09:15 <Robert> Can someone remind me where to look for the trace file?
18:14:47 <Robert> Found it.
18:14:57 <Robert> * 17:02:59 DEBUG <gnc.tests> [enter c:/gcdev/gnucash-2.6.18/gnucash.git/src/import-export/log-replay/gnc-log-replay.c:gnc_file_log_replay()]

18:14:57 <Robert> * 17:04:32 DEBUG <gnc.tests> [interpret_split_record] interpret_split_record(): Start...
18:15:29 <Robert> not very informative
18:18:03 <Robert> I usually do not see DEBUG messages in traces
18:21:47 <Robert> I just tried running the next log file and GnuCash crashed again with a very similar trace file
18:24:12 <jralls> Robert: Actually it's a bit helpful, there's something that's crashing in interpret_split_record. That's about as good as we're going to get unless you have a Mingw environment available in which to get a stack trace.
18:25:20 <Robert> I can try that now. I have the instructions in front of me
18:29:14 <Robert> I need to get gdb so this will take a while
18:31:21 <Robert> do I need the full Mingw setup?

19:53:27 <Robert> OK, I have installed MinGW and tried running gdb with C:\MinGW\bin\gdb.exe "C:\Program Files (x86)\gnucash\bin\gnucash.exe"
19:53:50 <Robert> gdb starts but GnuCash does not
19:54:20 <Robert> I currently have a (gdb) prompt in CMD
19:55:52 <Robert> BTW it installled gdb 7.6.1

20:03:23 <Robert> ing symbols found)...done.
20:03:25 <Robert> (gdb)
20:03:39 <Robert> That was what GDB did
20:04:31 <jralls> Robert: Please use pastebin or similar for output, don't paste it here.
20:06:24 <Robert> I will have to relearn how to use pastebin
20:06:31 <jralls> Robert: You have to tell gdb to run the program; just typing 'r<return:' will do. After it crashes type 'bt<return>" to get the stack trace. It should be able to identify the stack frames by function name even with no symbols.
20:07:22 <Robert> aha!!

21:12:46 <Robert> is there any way to move the splash screen without erasing it when GnuCash is slow to load?
21:21:34 <Robert> A different problem: I succeeded in updating F::Q in Debian Jessie to version 1.47. I opened GnuCash 2.6.11 in that machine and tried to get quotes. I got a huge list of unable to retrieve quotes for these items listing every security set to Alphavantage. Now I cannot close that list because it goes off the bottom of the screen
21:23:22 <Robert> Gnucash seems to be waiting for me to do something
21:25:22 <Robert> I guess pressing the escape key dislodged it
21:29:05 <Robert> is there something else that I need to do to get F::Q to actually get those quotes?
21:29:52 <Robert> It has worked for this data file from GnuCash 2.6.18 in Windows 7
21:32:55 <Robert> BTW, the GnuCash 2.6.11 in Debian Jessie did not crash when I tried to re-run those log files, but I am not sure if it just did nothing instead, as there was no indication on the screen that it succeeded
21:35:38 <Robert> There was no error to the terminal which I am using to run Gnucash
