04:49:35 <gour> morning
04:50:16 <gour> the other day on users list there was a post about envelope-budgeting report with the following link: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=791993
04:51:24 <gour> i dl-ed it and put the following line: (load (gnc-build-dotgnucash-path "transaction_budget-jps.scm)) in my ~/.gnucash/config.user, but the report does not appear in the menu. any hint how to troubleshoot it?
05:09:19 <chris_away> gour: did you forget closing " in your line?
05:25:26 <gour> chris_away: omg, this is really embarrassing :-(
05:41:14 *** chris_away is now known as chris

06:17:10 <chris> jralls lmat I've pushed a PR to crystallise my time64 changes so far -- if this is merged, the new t64 API calls must be considered 'frozen' - at least for now

07:27:43 <lmat> chris: ^_^ Have a good hike while I was sleeping?
07:28:47 <chris> only 1h trek up & down foggy Mount Baw Baw
07:29:56 <chris> it was wet and cold and we weren't prepared :)
07:32:31 <lmat> chris: My wife just got a warning on her cellular telephone: arctic temperatures; keep outdoor exposure time at a minimum; do not expose skin.
07:32:37 <lmat> I'm not prepared to stay *indoors* today

07:39:19 <chris> shame !
07:52:17 <chris> hm so, the state of my t64 so far is - something's borked causing report option dates to malfunction - will need to figure this out in 48h because obviously the next 2 days are rather full!

08:06:56 <lmat> ouch, query_date_getter expects a timespec back. The getter it's calling is returning time64. Naturally, the return value is all borked. Yay for function signature type safety?

09:16:51 <gjanssens> lmat: what part of the world do you live in that you get warnings for arctic temperatures ?
09:17:18 <gjanssens> Here in Belgium the whether is currently just... meh
09:18:30 <gjanssens> Grey sky, rainy, temeratures around 5 degrees Celsius (about 41 degrees Farenheit)

09:38:57 <lmat> gjanssens: Indiana, USA
09:39:17 <lmat> gjanssens: wind chills below 0 degrees farenheit I think is the worry.
09:40:06 <lmat> gjanssens: It's not normally so bad... -18 degrees C with 13 km/h wind
09:40:32 <lmat> 24 km/h wind now. I don't really know about weather, but it sure is cold out :-)
09:42:47 <gjanssens> Oh right. I don't remember having had such a low temperature around here :)

16:19:15 <frozenjim> Bug? Cannot pay CURRENCY bills in with NON-CURRENCY account. All works up to the point where I actually open the payment dialog. Bill is 100(USD), VISA was charged 130(CAD). Enter 100 in payment to fully pay bill, Transfer funds dialog only allows exchange in WRONG DIRECTION.

16:22:25 <frozenjim> Is this same bug in system since 2014? Surely not... people do use CURRENCY with trading accounts.... right?
16:23:46 <frozenjim> (no... cannot be same, new TRADING ACCOUNTS replaced old system)
16:27:02 <frozenjim> Summary: Is it possible to have CURR vendor and CURR Bill with non-CURR expense accounts, non-CURR payment?
16:57:34 <jralls> frozenjim: If the CC was charged you've already paid, right? So just process the bill with that payment... but ISTR that the business features don't work with trading accounts. I don't use those and don't know much about them.

17:00:11 <frozenjim> AH. Thanks. Problem is (example) Enter an Amazon bill in USD. Weeks later VISA gives a total based on a completely different exchange rate. No real way to handle it.
17:01:05 <frozenjim> Current solution is to ignore changes in rates (bad accounting) and then this works: USD Vendor, USD Bill, USD sub-accounts, pay in CAD VISA at exchange rate on VISA statement. It works... but no tax audit will accept it.
17:01:40 <frozenjim> My reporting works because of GnuCash's great account "roll-up" feature that handles currency in sub-accounts.
17:02:15 <frozenjim> I guess this is why there are no Youtube tutorials on CURRENCY payments ;-)
17:04:10 <jralls> Accounting in multiple currencies is indeed error-prone. Can't you get the amount Visa is charging in CAD from the bank's website a few minutes after you make the charge?
17:05:26 <frozenjim> No... it often changes between the "pending" and "actual" state. But after some reflection, I think that there is actually no audit issue here... I shall make that Youtube Tutorial and see if anyone tears me apart.
17:05:51 <frozenjim> I know this is a big problem for many. Perhaps I have it licked...

18:01:35 <chris> jralls - there's a regression unfortunately somewhere in linux in current unstable - try any report (or the regular register), choose an absolute date eg. 01/01/1997, and the system will truncate the year to 19 and is then interpreted as 01/01/2019.
18:02:01 <chris> jralls I typed 01/01/1997 in the date picker.
18:04:04 <chris> anyone else please confirm - if I'm right this is rather serious
18:05:17 <jralls> chris: Hmm, not on mac...
18:06:34 <chris> ok I'll try other builds when I can later
18:07:27 <jralls> chris: And not on Fedora-26.
