00:06:56 <CDB-Man> hmm, when using price editor, im getting the error dialogue "there was an unknown error while retreiving the price quotes"
00:07:05 <CDB-Man> I'm using yahoo finance for all quotes
00:07:27 <CDB-Man> known issue, or new and I should file a ticket?
00:08:14 <CDB-Man> downloaded the lastest gnucash stable release today, in case it was an issue with out of date finance:quote module

12:42:29 <omaha_omaha> the thick plottens - added the key as an environment variable and the error oes away. But no results found for GE or IBM.

14:41:43 <FrankT-Qc> Hi. It seems that the Yahoo API for quotes is dead. Should I mention it to someone or are you already aware of this ?
14:41:44 <omaha_omaha> is anyone else having trouble getting financial quotes since lat week?
14:42:31 <FrankT-Qc> omaha: same here.
14:47:04 <omaha_omaha> I loaded new finance, tried command line, got needed ALPHA... API KEY. got one and set in environment variable. command line doesnt faail, but no results for GE or IBM. Program still "unknown error" - and no trace

16:17:34 <carwynnelson> gjanssens: I didn't seem to get your reply to my mailing list email. I found it on the archives because I thought it was weird I didn't get a reply
16:17:38 <carwynnelson> Is this something that happens often?
16:25:34 <warlord> carwynnelson: what's the date/time of the reply that you didn't get? I can check the logs.

16:40:33 <chris> I'm wondering how much is worth while cleaning up old .scm code and helper modules
16:41:11 <chris> don't want to completely clobber file history while refactoring, I think it's rude to older devs

16:48:30 <lmat> chris: I think it's great. Clean code is maintainable code.
16:49:03 <lmat> chris: Silly changes should be avoided, but if you're restructuring code so that I (a scheme novice) and others like me can read it, it's a win.
16:49:22 <lmat> chris: Of course, if something else moves your fancy, feel free to look elsewhere.
16:49:56 <lmat> chris: It is a goal of the developers to remove scheme code from the "core" of gnucash. The easier that scheme code is to understand, the better that will go.
16:51:46 *** meb has joined #gnucash
17:45:11 <jralls> chris: And don't worry too much about changes clobbering history. The recent rearrangement of the directory structure did that already, and there were some massive reindentation changes about 10 years ago.
17:46:20 <carwynnelson> warlord: This is geerts reply https://lists.gnucash.org/pipermail/gnucash-devel/2017-November/041230.html
17:47:23 <jralls> chris: All of the changes are still in history, of course, it's just that the big changes make it a little more work to find. Besides, those developers of yore are probably much better now and embarrassed by their poor code of 15 years ago. Refactoring hides it for them. ;-)

18:12:36 <chris> Ok I'll keep going then. My refactoring will occasionally fix bugs as I find them (will annotate where I remember)
18:13:00 <chris> Also occasionally introduce new features (but I'll make sure to highlight for some discussion before finalising)
18:14:58 <chris> ... and even though the first file was hard work I still don't think it's finalised; more abstractions will come up when tackling others

18:19:47 <chris> thinking ahead, I'll introduce my own scheme query instead of qof-query which I hear will be surgically removed in the future... this will be appropriately labelled/modularised & annotated of course
18:20:18 <chris> (modularised within the file rather than loading external module)
18:32:02 <chris> lmat: thank you, comments welcome from novice schemers too, https://github.com/christopherlam/gnucash/pull/6 - would you believe I picked up scheme 2 months ago?

19:34:15 <lmat> chris: Wow, this looks like great work! I'm glad you're getting so comfortable with this part of the code.
19:34:50 <lmat> chris: Another thing comes to mind: I tried to remove timepairs (timespec), and had great trouble in scheme. We would like to get rid of time pairs in favor of time64s.
19:35:12 <lmat> chris: Timepairs store a pair: seconds and milliseconds. We would rather just store seconds: we don't need millisecond precision.

19:45:02 <lmat> chris: There was one function in particular that I had a tough time with, but I can't remember what it was just now.
20:22:45 <lmat> I've made a bunch of changes, and now test-app-utils fails with "gnc.module-WARNING **: Could not locate module gnucash/app-utils interface v.0"
20:23:07 <lmat> I didn't make any changes to the module system.
20:24:42 <lmat> Here's my code: https://github.com/limitedatonement/gnucash/tree/fix_bayes
20:27:24 <lmat> Ah, maybe I changed the interface to app-utils, and it's using the system-installed app utils library which is now failing to load.
