With that and an rpath fixup for Mac that I'm working on now I think we're finally ready to release 2.7.0. I intend to use a new tag, 2.7.0a so that the other work of the last month is included.

12:47:19 <jralls> I looked over the open PRs and didn't see anything that's ready to merge, though Chris Lam added a typo fix today that shouldn't be a problem. Do you have anything pending?
12:48:59 <gjanssens> jralls: No. I just got back yesterday and I'm still catching up
12:49:17 <jralls> Ah, OK. Fun trip?
12:49:53 <gjanssens> Yes. I went hiking for 6 days in Ireland with my brother-in-law :)
12:50:07 <gjanssens> I enjoyed every bit of it
12:50:46 <jralls> Very nice indeed! What part of Ireland?
12:51:01 <gjanssens> Wicklow Mountains, just south of Dublin
12:53:11 <jralls> Lovely. We drove through there with a stop in Kilkenny on our trip a few years ago.
12:54:22 <jralls> Back to GnuCash. It's logging an error "org.gnucash.general schema not found", but I don't see anything matching that name in the sources.
12:56:51 <gjanssens> jralls: that should be in gnucash/gnome/gschemas/org.gnucash.gschema.xml.in.in
12:56:58 <gjanssens> (according to a first grep)
12:57:54 <gjanssens> Yes, it's defined in there. So apparently that schema is not built/installed properly.
12:58:10 <jralls> Hmm, that schema is present.
12:58:45 <jralls> Or rather, org.gnucash.gschema.xml is present.
13:00:49 <jralls> Along that line, any idea why the schemas would need to be recompiled on installation from this build but not from the old build? Is there a difference between maint and unstable in how we're using gschema?
13:03:59 *** User has joined #gnucash
13:05:14 <gjanssens> jralls: no idea, I wasn't even aware we were recompiling the schemas on installation
13:06:09 *** warlord has joined #gnucash
13:07:48 <jralls> We aren't, and they don't work. It's part of what Bob reported Friday as part of what he needed to fix to get GnuCash to start. Part of the problem was that I had left the Schema directory out of the bundle, but once I fixed that I still had to compile again to get it to work.
13:09:02 <jralls> The original gschema.compiled is copied over but gsettings seems not to accept it.
13:12:10 <jralls> Ah, I wasn't looking at the right tracefile. The message about org.gnucash.general is from before I ran glib-compile-schemas on the installed schema directory.
13:13:49 <gjanssens> Did you compare the gschemas.compiled files from the build and installed directory for differences ?
13:14:12 <gjanssens> I ran a strings command on one but I don't see anything that could be path specific

13:17:58 <gjanssens> Back
13:20:59 <gjanssens> jralls: does your last message mean you don't have to recompile the gschemas on installation or something else ?
13:23:37 <jralls> No, it means that it was the error that was keeping GnuCash from starting until I recompiled the gschemas.
13:25:57 *** Mechtilde has joined #gnucash
13:27:10 <jralls> Diffing the results of strings on the old and new produces a ton of differences. grepping org.gnucash.general in each produces some differences as well but it's hard to tell if its significant.
13:27:49 <gjanssens> How odd
13:29:28 <gjanssens> Hmm, thinking this through some more, it makes sense
13:30:11 <gjanssens> gschemas.compiled is built from *all* schemas available to glib2, so this compilation step should happen at install time
13:31:32 <gjanssens> Perhaps we have more (non-gnucash) schemas now that we use msys2 ?
13:33:15 <gjanssens> Hmm, doesn't look like that.
13:33:33 <jralls> Oh... (slaps forehead) No, it's that the schemas are in two places during build. The Glib and Gtk ones are in /mingw32/share/glib-2.0 and the gnucash ones are in the install directory.
13:33:50 <gjanssens> Right. That's it.
13:37:07 *** fabior has quit IRC
13:37:24 <gjanssens> So we can produce the gschemas.compiled file during our make/ninja install step if we properly include the glib/gtk schemas and then just copy it all over to the bundle.
13:38:02 <gjanssens> For a moment I was worried we had to perform that compilation step while the bundle was being executed to install gnucash...
13:38:11 <gjanssens> Whew :)
13:42:46 <jralls> Looks like we have to copy all of the files together first then run glib-compile-schemas. It takes only one directory argument.
13:44:20 <gjanssens> Saw that indeed. The authors of that tool weren't really thinking multi-platform :(
13:49:32 <jralls> Most Gnome developers have to be regularly reminded that their stuff is used in environments other than Linux and quite a few have the attitude it's someone else's job to take care of the other platforms because they don't want to have to learn about them.

15:11:16 <jralls> But wait: We don't actually need the glib schemas, and I had set up the bundle to copy them in second so that overwrote gnucash's gschemas.compiled. Pulling in only the gnucash schemas works without a recompile.
15:32:09 <jralls> gjanssens: I've figured out what AQBanking was missing on Windows... but trying to launch the wizard crashes both installed and from the jhbuild install, meaning it probably is something to do with libgwen-gtk3.dll. I'm going to go ahead and release it anyway with a note about it in the NEWS and announcements.

15:35:20 <gjanssens> jralls: yes, please do. We can continue to chase these issues for the next development snapshot
15:35:34 <jralls> Exactly.
15:35:42 <gjanssens> And good find on the gschemas!
15:40:50 *** chf has joined #gnucash
15:41:23 <gjanssens> jralls: are you sure the Open/Save dialogs don't try to use the schemas in mingw32 ? There's a schema specifically for FileChooser in there...
15:42:03 <jralls> Good question, let me check...
15:43:02 <jralls> Yup, File>Open crashes.
15:45:55 <jralls> Interesting, it does running from jhbuild shell, too, so gsettings doesn't like multiple gschema.compiled.
15:49:57 <gjanssens> Or it doesn't find the mingw32 one
15:50:39 <gjanssens> jralls: Is the mingw32 path part of XDG_DATA_DIRS ?
15:51:35 <gjanssens> From man glib-compile-schemas:
15:51:38 <gjanssens> At runtime, GSettings looks for schemas in the glib-2.0/schemas subdirectories of all directories specified in the XDG_DATA_DIRS environment variable. The usual location to install schema files is
15:51:41 <gjanssens> /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas.
15:52:02 *** fabior has joined #gnucash
15:56:43 <jralls> XDG_DATA_DIRS wasn't defined, but setting it to /mingw32 didn't change anything. Copying org.gtk.Settings.* to $PREFIX/share... and recompiling did.
15:58:07 <gjanssens> jralls: Ok, but remember XDG_DATA_DIRS is a list of paths. So if you only set it to /mingw32 it would fail to find the gnucash schemas.
15:58:20 <gjanssens> Anyway again this can be refined later.
15:58:32 <gjanssens> (if possible)
15:59:39 <jralls> Except that it did find GnuCash's schemas. It didn't crash until I tried to file>open. I think it just latches on to the first gscmemas.compiled it finds.
16:00:36 <jralls> Doesn't really matter for the bundle anyway, there's only the one share directory.
16:01:52 <jralls> Oh, wait: XDG_DATA_DIRS needs to be /mingw32/share, not /mingw32. *That* works.
16:07:53 <gjanssens> I hoped it to be something like that :)

19:55:59 <warlord> I mean, it's not capacity; I'm only using ~1mbps right now and I'm seeing the issue.
19:57:22 <warlord> Yeah, the issue is definitely not related to capacity. And I just got a 100mbps tick but didn't see the issue. (I wonder what that was?? It was bi-directional)
20:01:09 <warlord> Okay, I've convinced myself it's not at all related to filling the pipe. And I know it's not filling the modem connection/NAT table -- that is sitting under 200 / 4096. So it's definitely something else.
