04:01:20 <gjanssens> @tell codesmythe That's even better!
04:01:20 <gncbot> gjanssens: The operation succeeded.

11:06:48 <cleahcim> so when I'm importing a downloaded qfx I mistakenly imported it to the wrong account. Now when I try to delete and reimport it I don't have an option of which account to import it to. It just goes to the incorrect account. Is there a way to fix this?

14:12:46 <cleahcim> figured out a hack. I gunzipped the file, found the key/online_id in the xml, deleted the relevant xml nodes, and recompressed/saved.
14:12:51 <cleahcim> seems to have worked
14:13:16 <cleahcim> feature request : make it easier to remap ofx imports.

16:22:34 <warlord> cleahcim: create a bogus ofx file with a differerent account id and then map that 'bogus' ofx file to the errant account. Then the next time you try to import your correct ofx it will re-ask you to map it. (an account can only be mapped to a single ofx file)

17:00:16 <jeff> Hello how can i use Gnucash to track expenses only? I am having trouble.
17:00:43 <jeff> Everytime i make an entry it makes a rebate in the same amount and balance is 0
17:00:58 <jeff> Im sorry i have never used software like this
17:18:10 <warlord> jeff: GnuCash is double entry, which means every transaction must have a "source" and a "destination" That means you cannot keep track of *ONLY* expenses, because the expense has to come from *somewhere*.
17:18:21 <warlord> Please read the GnuCash Concepts & Tutorial.
17:18:32 <warlord> ONce you make the leap to double-entry you'll find it a very powerful tool.

18:12:35 <lmat> jeff: So a typical expense might be groceries. Expense debit (left hand side) $15 checking account credit (right hand side) $15. This means the money came out of your checking account and was used to pay that grocery expense.
18:12:39 <lmat> jeff: Enjoy!
18:13:52 <quazgar> Hi, in "A/Payable" accounts, what does the "Type" stand for? It can switch between "P" (with a settable due date) and "I" (with the due date set to the transfer date). I am normally using teh German version of gnucash, and there's also no explanation of the options.
18:54:09 <quazgar> The same question goes for the "action" field in A/Payable and A/Receivable, what do the options credit/interest/invoice/payment mean?
18:54:36 <quazgar> Are they just tags for my personal classification of transactions, or do they have a deeper meaning?

19:50:08 <warlord> quazgar: you should never be entering transactions into A/R or A/P accounts by hand.
19:52:56 <quazgar> I see you also just found the relevant bug report :-)
19:53:12 <warlord> Yes, because you added yourself to it, so I got an email about it.
19:55:07 <quazgar> I see :-) The problem is, that a lot of "manual" accounts are of that type in the German SKR04 account template.
19:58:08 <warlord> Then tha'ts a MAJOR bug in SKR04
19:58:22 <warlord> Or they aren't supposed to be manual and you''re using SKR04 wrong.
20:02:36 <quazgar> It's hard to tell how they are supposed to be used, but I assume that maybe the creator of that template just used the account types because they are very conveniently named in German ("Offene Forderungen"), which is just the translation of "Accounts payable".
20:03:43 <quazgar> I will think and see if I can think of a use case where they could only be used manually, and else try and use the automatic invoice etc. creation.
20:09:18 <quazgar> but thanks for the help!
20:09:37 <warlord> You're welcome.
20:14:57 <quazgar> I'll be back with more questions, if necessary ;-)
