08:10:25 <Mechtilde> one question about online transactions. In Germany you can only use SEPA transactions. So you don't need the menu entry "single transaction anymore.
08:10:38 <Mechtilde> Is it possible to deactivate it?

12:19:40 <jralls> gjanssens: Progress! I managed at long last to get guile master to build all the way through yesterday. Gnucash build is still choking because it's finding the wrong guile executable--msys2 installs guile as a dependency of gdb, but that build is 64-bit and may depend on Cygwin.

13:38:11 <warlord> gjanssens: I just got a new laptop and debating whether to put F26-beta on it (it drops Tuesday) and update to F26 final in July, or just install F25 and live with that for a while. I don't like upgrading distro versions frequently, so if I go with F25 I'll stay there a while.
13:39:38 <aperali> Hi all, sorry! I'd like to know if is it possible to get currency variation of some foreigner accoutn from a period of time? Thank you,
13:46:50 *** fabior has quit IRC
13:53:44 <jralls> aperali: No, sorry. There's no historical quote retrieval in GnuCash.
13:57:05 <jralls> aperali: OTOH, if you mean a report of the value of a foreign currency account in some other currency and you already have the exchange rates in the price database, then look at the asset barchart and asset linechart reports.

14:30:13 <aperali> @jralls: thank you for reply. I need to see how much was the value of an asset along a period of time, e.g. 1 year, based on a specific currency. What I understood is gnucash uses one currency rate for entire period, isn't it?
14:30:13 <gncbot> aperali: Error: "jralls:" is not a valid command.
14:32:15 <jralls> aperali: Depends on the report setting. In report options, general tab, select "Nearest in Time" to use the quote closest to the date for each point.
14:37:51 <aperali> I did it but the value doesn't change. I also updated automatic quotes in tools tab

14:43:16 <aperali> i created 2 transactions in this account: 1 deposit in jun16 and a interes paid in jun17. The report shows monthly values during 2017 which the 1st half has one coverted value and after jun17 it adds the interest paid. Both seems to be converted at the same currency rate
14:44:02 <aperali> am i missing something?
14:45:24 <jralls> aperali: If you don't have the historical quotes then the only way to make them is to create them by hand, one at a time. As I led off with, GnuCash has no way to import or load historical quotes. It's only able to retrieve the current quote.
14:49:28 <aperali> Now i understood. thank you very much! is there any way to open the currency database with e.g. MSAccess to imput those values? I already have the historical data from another financial sw in excel
14:54:46 <jralls> Not officially, but if you save your GnuCash file to one of the SQL databases then you could construct update queries to insert the sources. Access might be able to do that, but I haven't used it for almost 20 years and I don't remmember.
14:55:13 <jralls> Sorry, insert the *prices*.

17:08:38 <gjanssens> jralls-afk: regarding aparali's question: it is possible to interact with external databases using MsAccess (sadly I'm still doing this as we speak for a legacy stock management program)
17:08:59 *** jralls-afk is now known as jralls
17:09:14 <gjanssens> One needs to install the proper db driver for odbc and then MsAccess can connect to it
17:09:42 <gjanssens> In my case I'm using MsAccess as frontend and Postgresql as backend.
17:10:07 <gjanssens> No idea whether drivers are also available for sqlite3 or MySql though
17:10:35 <gjanssens> I'm just writing this as background info...
17:10:57 <gjanssens> I'm glad you got further with guile on Windows.
17:11:03 <jralls> gjanssens: Oh, yeah, I forgot completely about ODBC. I'm pretty sure drivers are available for SQLite3 and I'd be *really* surprised if they weren't for MySQL.
17:11:17 <gjanssens> Sadly I haven't had any time left this week for GnuCash :(
17:11:40 <gjanssens> So I made no progress at all
17:12:14 <gjanssens> Perhaps I should push my Gtk3 branch to code (as gtk3 branch still) so others can help as well.
17:12:33 <jralls> That's OK. It's not really ready for anyone to try it anyway. I still haven't got guile working completely, though I'm definitely closer.
17:12:51 <gjanssens> It's likely Robert Fewell can make some useful contributions in cleaning up the Gtk3 quirks
17:13:18 <gjanssens> FYI I found the SX editor needs some love as well
17:13:37 <jralls> I'm sure Bob F can indeed do some useful cleanup, but if he's so motivated he can get it as easily from your Github repo as from GnuCash's.
17:13:38 <gjanssens> It's not rendering fully well in gtk3
17:14:04 <gjanssens> I think because gtk3 no longer draws backgrounds by default
17:14:24 <jralls> I'm more amazed that anything *does* render correctly. The sizing model is significantly changed.
17:15:05 <gjanssens> He can, but perhaps it's more of a psychological barrier for him to pull directly from my repo
17:16:09 <gjanssens> Anyway, I hope I can jump back in soon.
17:16:14 <jralls> Possibly. Well, it's no harm done to push it to code.
17:16:49 <jralls> BTW, I'll be away most of next week, leaving Tuesday and back Saturday.
17:17:03 <gjanssens> warlord: I am currently on F25 still. I usually upgrade fairly soon after the official releases
17:17:27 <gjanssens> The upgrade process has become relatively straightforward.
17:17:45 <gjanssens> But there are the occasional surprises.
17:17:49 <jralls> Is there anything really interesting coming in F26? It's F27 that's dropping WebKit1, right?
17:18:13 <gjanssens> Note I'm using KDE while Fedora typically promotes Gnome
17:18:34 <gjanssens> That in itself is reason for some extra instabilities. KDE is less well tested it seems.
17:19:17 <gjanssens> jralls: I haven't followed the planned "features" of F26 so I don't really know
17:20:08 <gjanssens> jralls: do you read mail/irc on your trip ?
17:20:53 <gjanssens> Anyway, time to go to bed here.
17:21:00 <gjanssens> See you later

19:58:52 <codesmythe> jralls: The distcheck step can build and check the tarball without automake. But because the tarball can be build with autotools, I run the autotools distcheck also.

20:22:32 <jralls> codesmythe: Ah, to make sure that the tarball *will* build with autotools. Got it.
20:24:04 *** codesmythe has joined #gnucash
20:28:11 <warlord> codesmythe: does "distcheck" do a "dist" first to create the tarball that it uses to test?
20:28:29 * warlord doesn't remember the order that distcheck w/ autotools uses.

20:34:44 *** Cork has joined #gnucash
20:40:56 <jralls> warlord: Yes, it does.
20:43:19 <jralls> codesmythe: I think there's no need to run `make dist` or `make distcheck` in the autotools section of RUN_AUTOTOOLS_DISTCHECK. You've already made the tarballs, you only need to make sure that they pass the tests with autotools as well as cmake/ninja.
