09:43:58 <warlord> jmd: I've not heard of that bug.. Is it ANY report, or a specific report? What OS/Distro?
09:47:45 <jmd> warlord: I couldn't find any matching report in Bugzilla (but I find it hard to navigate). OS is GuixSD.
09:48:42 <jmd> The stacktrace seems to indicate that it's to do with dynamic loading of the webkit plugin.
09:48:55 <warlord> Never heard of GuixSD. I would chalk up any issues to your local system/dependencies and not gnucash.
09:49:37 <jmd> I hope your first sentence is a joke!
09:50:30 <warlord> About never hearing about GuixSD? Nope, not a joke. Never heard of it.
09:50:56 <jmd> Oh well ... you have now.
09:51:13 <warlord> Assuming it's a linux distro... It's certainly not one of the major or minor distros..
09:51:45 <warlord> Regardless, if the issue is in webkit.... I would look to your distro provider for help.
09:52:10 <jmd> I would say it's somewhere between "minor" and "major" these days.
09:52:50 <warlord> If *I* have never heard of it... Nope. It's not. I consider "Arch" between minor and major. Something I've never heard of in 25 years of Linux experience??? Nope, not.
09:53:37 <warlord> Regardless....
09:53:40 <warlord> You should talk to them.
09:54:08 <warlord> If you can reproduce the issue on a major distro then come back and we'll take a closer look.
09:54:30 <warlord> ... but the fact that nobody has reported this would seem to imply it's distro-specific.
09:54:36 <jmd> Ah well in my 22 years I *have* heard of it, but since it's only about 4 years old, I don't think years of "linux" experience counts.
09:54:46 <jmd> I will definitely talk to them.
09:55:11 <jmd> But I bet $50 they will say "talk to the gnucash developers".
09:55:37 <warlord> If GnuCash is one of their packages then they should support the integration.
09:56:17 <jmd> Sure. Shouldn't upstream also support downstream enquiries?
09:57:11 <warlord> If it's a gnucash issue, sure. But this sounds like a dependency problem on the downstream, which means they control that, not us.
09:57:40 <warlord> Webkit in particular can be very testy if it's built wrong
09:58:29 <jmd> The problem with that approach is that 95% of the work involved in bug squashing is finding out exactly *where* the problem lies.
09:58:43 <jmd> Once one knows what the problem is, fixing it is often trivial.
09:59:12 <warlord> Indeed. And if none of the developers (and pretty much none of the users except one) can reproduce it....
09:59:32 <jmd> Anyway, right now I'm going to have to find another way of submitting my tax return.
10:00:09 <warlord> try using Fedora, Debian, or Ubuntu?
10:00:41 <jmd> I tried that too. On Debian "stable" GNUcash crashes straight after the splash screen.
10:01:29 <warlord> What version of gnucash was that? (I dont use DebUntu so dont really follow what version is "stable" )
10:01:55 *** Robert has joined #gnucash
10:01:57 <warlord> (for those platforms we often tell users to use GetDeb)
10:02:00 <jmd> 2.6.12 I think
10:02:44 <jmd> No. 2.6.4

10:06:27 <jmd> Mechtilde: I might try that later. Right now I have to get the Tax Office off my back. So it looks like their going to get a hand written return. (and I'm going to have a long night).

14:39:56 <jralls> warlord: Nor would I. Since they're using a fork of the kernel I'm dubious about even calling it Linux, and unless someone shows up to support it I'm inclined to say that we don't. Like Solaris or HPUX, users are welcome to try but if they have problems they're on their own.
