06:07:23 <fell> gr8kodr: The server is code.gnucash.org and there are now both branches MAINT and MASTER
06:07:59 <fell> So, for ducumentation, I would use http://code.gnucash.org/docs/MAINT/
06:10:02 <gr8kodr> fell: so, should I update the link(s) on the wikipage once I find the referenced pages?
06:10:12 <fell> An alias svn.gnucash.org is still defined, but misleading
06:10:21 <fell> Yes, go for it!
06:11:05 <gr8kodr> heh heh, may take a while, but I will "fix" any 404 links I find then :)
06:15:06 <gr8kodr> just requested a Wiki Acct so I can make the edits
06:16:36 <fell> gr8kodr: Confirmed.
06:20:06 <gr8kodr> fell: could you confirm the email I used pls? the confirmation email hasn't arrived ... domain should be kstingel-dot-com
06:20:22 <gr8kodr> I may have typoed it :)
06:20:55 <fell> let me see ...
06:22:36 <gr8kodr> was a delay, it just came through :)
06:22:55 <fell> OK
06:23:17 <gr8kodr> hmm, this isn't good ... Invalid confirmation code. The code may have expired.
06:25:53 <gr8kodr> can't login because I don't know my password

06:26:36 <fell> That from teh email didn't work?
06:29:04 <gr8kodr> nope, I got the message above
06:29:41 <gr8kodr> now when I request a password reset, I get ... A password reset email has already been sent, within the last 24 hours. To prevent abuse, only one password reset email will be sent per 24 hours.

08:44:37 <gjanssens> gr8kodr: I'm happy your new-account duplication was just an installation issue. Phew :)
08:49:15 <gjanssens> gr8kodr: as to your question for a mingw-w64 installer, we don't have one.
08:49:24 <gjanssens> We only build a 32bit version of gnucash currently
08:50:24 <gr8kodr> I'm on a 64bit machine, so I don't know which GCC I should be using
08:50:43 <gjanssens> Are you trying to build from scratch ?
08:51:45 <gjanssens> And you did follow http://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Windows/Development ?
08:51:54 <gr8kodr> will be working on General Ledger filter-save, so wanted to install build env to test before pushing edits :)
08:52:25 <gjanssens> That's great :D
08:52:27 <gr8kodr> am in process of gathering all tools and such atm
08:52:47 <gjanssens> So how did you try to set up the environment ? We recommend following the link I just posted.
08:54:19 <gr8kodr> reading that link now ... would it be better to just build and test in a Linux VM?
08:59:12 <gjanssens> gr8kodr: if you can do that, it will probably much easier. We don't have active developers whose primary platform is Windows, so the build environment on that platform is less well taken care of.
08:59:51 <gjanssens> I think it should work, but it may have more small warts or unexpected small oddities.
09:00:01 <gjanssens> (on windows that is)
09:00:16 <gr8kodr> I have a laptop running CentOS, so I can build there if I can't get a working build env on Windon't
09:01:12 <gr8kodr> glossary - Windon't, Windows 10 rename because it don't do what it should heh heh

09:19:34 <gr8kodr> yep 7 :) ... and about to make sure is very latest by doing fresh install
09:20:13 <gr8kodr> also have a Hyper-V Ubuntu VM, but that's buggy atm

09:24:32 <hrishi> hello is GnuCash in active development? github shows recent commits but its a little sparse
09:36:29 <gjanssens> hrishi: yes, gnucash is actively being developed, albeit by a small team of volunteers
09:37:20 <gjanssens> We release stable releases about every 3 months and the next major release is currently targeting the end of this year.
09:37:43 <hrishi> thank you. Any ideas on how I can move from Quicken2017 Mac to Gnucash. The Mac version does not export to QIF
09:40:28 <gjanssens> hrishi: you could export to csv and then convert your csv file into qif. You can find tools to do so on the internet (look for calc2qif for example) and then import the qif files into gnucash
09:41:18 <gjanssens> Be sure to search this topic in the mailing list archives as well, it's a recurrent topic and much has been said about it already.

11:02:54 <gjanssens> jralls: I've put up a pull request with my work so far to add a str+date_fmt based constructor to GncDate
11:03:50 <gjanssens> Unfortunately while all tests pass, the test segfaults at the end due to a memory violation deep inside the boost::regex code. So far no clue why that is...
11:04:09 <gjanssens> I'm looking forward to your feedback in general.

11:27:32 <jralls> gjanssens: I've been doing updates on gtk-osx so I need to regenerate my GnuCash build environment. I've started that now and I'll build and try to debug your PR when it's done.
11:29:26 <gjanssens> jralls: wonderful
11:30:26 <gjanssens> There's time. We have company tonight so I won't be able to work on this before tomorrow
11:32:50 <jralls> OK. Not that I'll promise to have the problem solved before tomorrow. ;-)

12:53:37 <gr8kodr> fell: I'm starting with the gc-on-win package initially, so will write up a page on that, as well as a more general page covering generic gnucash and gc-docs setups
12:55:51 <gr8kodr> first point of 'interest' for gc-on-in ... it didn't see that I have Git already, so now I have an additional git install under c/:gcdev

12:57:25 <fell> AFAIK every Unix-on-windows emulator uses its own directory
12:57:33 <gr8kodr> will make some notes and possibly update the wiki page to include any ENV settings that need to exist to avoid duplication of tools ... present page doesn't specifically detal them
12:57:45 <gr8kodr> *detail
12:59:24 <gr8kodr> and each windows version is (slightly) different in how it references them
12:59:54 <fell> My last really used Win version was 98. So I am of little help there.
13:01:52 <gr8kodr> I have access to a Win7 PC for reference, and I'm running Win 10, so will include a section for each ... Vista is no longer available for download and install, so there doesn't seem much point worrying about preVista vars
13:02:52 <gr8kodr> ... and anyone still using WinXP needs to upgrade to a Linux box :D

14:10:36 <jralls> gr8koddr: Adding some detail about that in the wiki would be great.
14:11:13 <gr8kodr> jralls: don't really understand how to read vbs files ... have file open CLion, still trying to understand it :)

15:01:13 <jralls> gjanssens: Valgrind says that the crash is caused by a double-free in gnc_date_formats. Making gnc_date_formats static instead of global fixes the problem. Not sure if it's the *right* fix in part because I don't understand why gnc_date_formats needs to be a global.

21:47:59 <Andrew-> Question about student grants and scholarships: How best to record them? Specifically, I received my first financial aid disbursement since using GnuCash. I'm new to tracking my finances so I don't have the foresight to know if simply adding an entry in Income:Gifts Received, or Income:Other Income, will necessitate changes down the road. Would it be better to create a subaccont in one of
21:47:59 <Andrew-> those Income accounts and then add an entry for this disbursement. (In case it's relevant, there are no restrictions on the use of this specific financial aid disbursement.)
