09:48:51 <warlord> gr8kodr: you need to handle that case with a split transaction.. Instead of a single $5 split into the USD account, you need a $0.52 split and a $4.48 split.
09:49:29 <gr8kodr> thanks warlord
09:49:58 <warlord> The business invoice code will do that for you automatically, but if you're manually using lots then you manually need to do that.

09:50:27 <warlord> I don't think the scrub function will do it for you, but I could be wrong about htat.

09:51:53 <gr8kodr> I just tied the Scrub Account function on the USD account, it closed the open lot and created a new Capital Gains entry in General Ledger :)
09:52:04 <gr8kodr> *tried
09:52:46 <qqx> I recently reinstalled my system using Debian testing, and with the GnuCash 2.6.15 package that it provides it isn't letting me change any settings.
09:58:57 <qqx> Ahh, figured out the problem. ~/.config/dconf was somehow owned by root.

13:18:20 <gr8kodr> still not understanding stocks/currencies ... (historical) USD/AUD rate = 1.6641713226 entered into Price Database both as the currency rate and the stock rate ...
13:21:16 <gr8kodr> entered buy transaction shows price as 1.66421 (expected) but subsequent sell transaction on same day displays price as 1.66429 (say what? - not the price that was entered)
13:25:36 <gr8kodr> additionally, haven't been able to find the stock purchase window, so currently entering buys and sells via General Ledger

14:17:14 <gr8kodr> side note: not being able to refer to gnucsh.org/docs (for the moment) is hindering understanding, so I apologise for all "dumb questions"
14:18:02 <gr8kodr> ^ edit gnucsh = gnucash
15:45:39 <jralls> gr8kodr: You should have the current docs already on your system and accessible via the Help menu.
15:46:59 <jralls> gjanssens: I haven't looked at the register drawing problem on gtk3, I'm still bogged down trying to get webkit to build in MinGW.
15:47:25 <gr8kodr> jralls:ty ... (doh!) *hangs head in shame*
15:51:04 <gr8kodr> can "Fetch Rate" grab historical rates, or do I need to manually enter them all?
15:54:11 <gr8kodr> and is there a way to bulk update historical rates from a CSV file?
15:57:37 *** kael has joined #gnucash
16:04:32 <jralls> gr8kodr: Fetch Rate gets only the current rate. GnuCash doesn't know how to retrieve historical quotes and there's no way to import them.
16:06:18 <gr8kodr> jralls: if I save as mysql db, then import into prices and re-save as xml, could that work or would it corrupt the data?
16:06:20 *** fell_ is now known as fell

16:07:28 <gr8kodr> ... I have rates going back to April 2003 to add *sigh*
16:11:40 <jralls> gr8kodr: Depends on whether you do the import into SQL correctly. Unless you're especially fond of MySQL for some reason you'll find it much less overhead to use SQLite3. But remember that writing data from outside of GnuCash voids the warranty, so be sure to make a backup first and to test thoroughly after.
16:12:39 <gr8kodr> don't know how to use SQLite3, been using MySQL for 15 yrs
16:14:04 <gr8kodr> am working with a fresh Book, so no data to backup as such ... just the Stocks and Currency info to create the price lists with
