13:39:54 <warlord> frozenjim: the invoice register column widths should automatically be saved. Not sure what you mean by "column *and report* widths", tho.
14:11:14 *** lucky has quit IRC
14:16:47 <frozenjim> I enter a bill for a vendor. The dialog is always the same (wrong) width - so I stretch it out and double-click on the columns so that I can read the contents (expense account and tax table are always too small). It's also tough not seeing the "Post Invoice" button..
14:17:37 <frozenjim> Similarly, when I go to the Vendor Report, I must change the period I am looking at every time from "This Month" to "This Year".
14:17:49 <frozenjim> Am i missing a simple way to save these settings?
14:18:27 <frozenjim> Or even a hard way! I'll hack code if necessary.
14:18:45 <frozenjim> ;-)
14:21:24 <warlord> Oh, the window size, not the column size.
14:21:50 <frozenjim> well, both I guess.
14:21:58 <warlord> the column sizes are remembered.
14:23:00 <frozenjim> Nope. I just reopened that last one and the window is the default size and the columns are all back to "too small". I'm referring to the business tools "New Bill" dialog.
14:23:23 <frozenjim> i.e. not the registers.
14:24:25 <frozenjim> I have tried using "save" from the dialog - but that is just the system-wide save. When I next open a "New Bill" dialog, all has reverted to original dimensions and column widths.
14:25:14 <warlord> Wait, there are no columns in the "new bill" dialog.
14:25:24 <warlord> the columns are in the edit-bill window.
14:25:47 <warlord> But the column sizes in the edit bill window are supposed to be saved.
14:25:59 <warlord> Do your account register column widths get saved properly?
14:26:22 <frozenjim> Right. It is the edit-bill. But no, the bill columns are not saved. Let me try a register and see if it saves...
14:27:24 <warlord> If it's not saving then it sounds like your preference saving is broken in general. What version of gnucash, and what OS/Distro?
14:27:39 <frozenjim> Nope. Opened the register "Licenses and Registries", widened the Description about three inches and closed it again. Reopened "Licenses and Registations" and it was back to defaults.
14:27:42 <frozenjim> Looking up specs...
14:28:29 <frozenjim> Gnucash 2.6.13 git rev ddf84d0+ (2016-06-27) on Windows 10.
14:31:39 <warlord> For the register try changing a different column, not the descroption column.
14:31:56 <warlord> but if it's not saving, then you have a registry issue.
14:34:01 <frozenjim> Right.... because it is auto-size. You are correct, other register columns retain their width - even after a resize of the main window.
14:34:50 <warlord> Right -- the desc column will auto-resize. the other columns should keep their sizes when you open the same register again.
14:34:56 <warlord> But so should the bill dialog.
14:35:05 <warlord> BIAB
14:38:29 <frozenjim> I have only now realized that the same window dimensions are SHARED by all dialogs. So whatever size my register window is, that is the width my edit-bill dialog will be. Even experimenting with this tidbit, I have not found a way to get the column widths to stick.
14:38:58 <frozenjim> So it is only the edit-bill, edit-invoice column widths I'm trying to save. (as well as the options for reporting-period).
14:39:07 <frozenjim> I'm off now for a bit as well.

23:21:45 <Stan> Is there a way I can just create a ton of transactions and classify them?
23:22:24 <Stan> Instead of just putting each transaction in its own category. That's just a lot of clicking.
23:31:44 <Stan> Maybe I should just make a "checking" account within the main account.
