09:12:05 *** rasecg3 has joined #gnucash
09:12:05 <jralls> warlord: He went AWOL for a month last spring, too, remember? Didn't you finally get him by SMS?
09:13:56 <rasecg3> Morning guys, unfortunately my computer crashed during the night and I lost the conversation history. Did anyone have a clue about my question?
09:15:28 <kjetilho> rasecg3: did you change your nickname?
09:15:41 <rasecg3> I don't think so
09:16:03 <rasecg3> My question was about 10 hours ago
09:16:18 <kjetilho> not on this channel
09:16:39 <rasecg3> Ok, no problem. I do it again ;P
09:16:52 <warlord> rasecg3: yeah, nothing in this channel all night.
09:17:03 <kjetilho> actually no one said anything between 17:34 UTC and 13:10 today :)
09:17:17 <warlord> And that was me in both cases ;)
09:17:24 <kjetilho> yes :)
09:17:32 <rasecg3> hahaha
09:19:52 <rasecg3> Well, I'm having problem on importing ofx files. I got my credit card transactions of the last 2 months in a ofx format. It is my first usage of gnuCash and I really think it can be very useful for my needs. So I imported the first file and everything worked like a charm, however when I imported the second one, there are 3 transactions missing.
09:20:32 <warlord> rasecg3: are you sure those three transactions are not duplicated from the first import?
09:20:33 <rasecg3> I know that is not a problem file, because when I open a clean gnucash project and import only the second file, it came with all transactions
09:20:57 <rasecg3> yeap
09:21:13 <warlord> Are you sure there is not a duplicate FITID?
09:23:03 <rasecg3> Not sure about FITID. How can I check it?
09:23:15 <warlord> Look at the two OFX files.
09:23:42 <rasecg3> one second
09:23:44 <warlord> And compare the FITIDs -- specifically see if the missing transactions from the 2nd file matches a FITID in the first
09:25:58 <rasecg3> yes, there are two identical FITIDs
09:29:29 <rasecg3> **** THE NOT IMPORTED TRANSACTION FROM THE SECOND FILE *****

09:30:36 <rasecg3> however they are different transations...is something wrong on the way my bank arrange the data?
09:31:30 <warlord> Yep. The FITID, by the specification, is supposed to be guaranteed unique.
09:31:51 <warlord> Your bank is violating the spec by re-using the FITID across multiple transactions.
09:33:30 <rasecg3> such a shame =\
09:33:53 <rasecg3> I knew I couldn't thrust my bank!
09:34:53 <rasecg3> well, nothing to do here, right? (appart of checking the transactions manually)
09:35:49 <kjetilho> sounds like you need to add your own uniquify step
09:36:54 *** rubdos has quit IRC
09:37:01 <warlord> Or, as kjetilho suggests, pre-process the OFX and ensure the transctions FITIDs are unique.
10:00:39 <rasecg3> ok then! Thank you very much for the support!
10:01:39 <warlord> Good luck!

16:03:37 <jralls> gjanssens: There's still a problem with test-report-utilities and test-cash-flow for timezones east of gmt+6. I found it while testing my fix of https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=772382.

17:19:44 <frozenjim> Hi all. USD number confusion: Since I cannot get the exchange applet to compile (windows 10) I am manually entering USD exchange rates periodically. Only now I realize that what I PAY as exchange (using Royal Bank of Canada) is NOT what I am entering from Forex (http://www.canadianforex.ca/forex-tools/historical-rate-tools/historical-exchange-rates). Unfortunately, now I have a mix of RBC rates (from when I make transfers) and Forex rates which I
17:19:44 <frozenjim> manually added.
17:20:32 <warlord> frozenjim: they are only used for reporting.
17:21:29 <frozenjim> I'm realizing that now. Your exchange applet, where does it go for it's rates? I think that so long as I am consistent, and I realize that it's (give or take 2%) it will all be fine. But for historical reporting I should aim for consistency.
17:23:16 <frozenjim> The challenge is that I was xferring CAD from my personal account to USD in my corporate account as "Shareholder's Loan" which I then allowed GnuCash to set the exchange value on. So that won't fly. I now know to enter it as USD from the outset - borrowed from my "shareholders loan/usd liability".
17:57:53 <gjanssens> jralls: I guess we're still being bitten by the timezone sensitivity of guile's localtime and mktime
17:58:17 <gjanssens> Unless you beat me to it, I'll experiment some more later this week
