04:50:55 <Noor_> little confused with GNU Cash for Android
04:51:29 <Noor_> On the front page of GNU Cash Web site, it states that GNU Cash development team recommends GNU Cash Android.
04:52:02 <Noor_> Is that means that GNU cash for Android is not developed by GNU Cash development team

16:21:03 <gulyasm> Hi all! I have a question regarding best practices. My girlfriend and I share costs by recording our shared expenses and at the end of the month, we settle the balance to be 50%-50%. Basically we split all expenses. The problem is that because we add all kinds of categories, at the end of the month it's hard for me to record that split into Gnucash because it has all kinds of categories. Auto, Entertainment, Gas, etc...
16:21:52 <gulyasm> Any suggestions how should I record or change the way to have clean categories and statistics?
16:24:35 <kjetilho> I would suggest you put all categories you should share in its own category, so you get the sum easily. but you can make custom reports, too.

17:11:51 <g5pw> hey all! i'm working on some python scripts, and would need to open a two sessions, but one can be read only. Is there any way to tell gnucash to open a session read-only?
17:26:06 *** gulyasm has quit IRC
17:28:31 *** fabior has quit IRC
17:53:30 <warlord> g5pw: yeah, there is a ReadOnly glad in the python session open. See the API.
17:55:02 <g5pw> warlord you mean these? http://svn.gnucash.org/docs/HEAD/classpython-bindings_1_1gnucash__core_1_1Session.html I can't seem to find them there
17:56:28 <warlord> Maybe I'm thinking about "ignore_lock"
17:56:35 <warlord> I thought there was a read_only variable
17:57:52 <warlord> You could TRY using the ignore_lock which would allow you to open an already-opened book.. I think that might do what you want. Although I'm not sure I know what you're trying to accomplish with two open books.
18:02:50 <g5pw> warlord yeah, I was a bit cryptic, anyways, I was trying to write some utilities for our hackerspace, and was thinking about doing a set of small utilities (e.g. get all customers matching x and print to stdout; another would take customer IDs and generate invoices), and was trying to pipe output between them. Of course, since the first one gets the lock, the second one cannot.
18:08:23 <warlord> ignore_lock
18:08:37 <warlord> Although why are both scripts running simultaneously?
18:20:57 <g5pw> warlord probably because the second one starts before che first finishes executing, since it already has some input to process
18:22:36 <warlord> You should probably serialize them, since there is no way to ensure that the script that needs to write into the database will open it first.
18:23:14 <warlord> anyways, I gotta run. bye
