02:37:45 <Chronostic> Just asking for the sake of curiosity, but it seems like my family is in a major mess with a bunch of accounts/collections all demanding cash. Would GnuCash be the best option to see exactly how much money we owe to each account/company?

06:19:46 <frozenjim> @chronostic if someone in your family wants to learn the fundamentals of bookeeping and dedicate themselves to rigorously entering all data at least once a week - the yes. But there are many simpler, easier-to-learn web apps that might be better. GnuCash is AWESOME at what it does, but can be a challenge for someone without the requisite experience. It isn't really a casual adventure ;-)

09:18:35 <j0rdn> Where can I find documentation on the debit/ credit formula functions
09:19:15 <j0rdn> ie ppmt, pmt, ipmt etc
09:19:45 <j0rdn> and as a user can I create me own functions
10:00:12 <Chronostic> Aww, he quit; that was helpful for him to say that. I will still consider gnucash, but what webapps is he talking about?

12:19:49 <jralls> j0rdn: They're intended to work like the spreadsheet equivalents. They aren't documented, though I think they may have been lifted from gnumeric 15 or so years ago so the gnumeric docs might be applicable. No, there's no way to add new ones at present.

14:18:14 <Victor> hi
14:18:40 <Victor> does anyone use the gnucash android version + the desktop version? If so: how do you work with it? Create everything in the desktop, export to the android version, write transactions on the go and everytime you want to switch to desktop/android you just export and import?
14:24:20 <j0rdn> @Victor Im working with the desktop currently. As of right now this seems to be the method. Then again I am very new to gnucash.

18:27:43 <kiap> Hi, I recently updated Gnucash on my MacBook to 2.6.13 and now it seems that Gnucash no longer looks at the Preferred languages in Language & Region but instead uses what is set as the 'Format language' in the 'Advanced...' part of this dialog. Also, the override option mentioned on the wiki to do "write -app Gnucash AppleLanguages '(en)'" in a terminal window no longer seems to have any effect. I live in the Netherlands, but
18:27:43 <kiap> prefer to use my software in English.
