03:02:32 <gour> on the mailing list i read the msgs in regard to the uncertain future of Gmane service. do you consider it is wise to switch to mailing lists? (iirc, warlord mentioned he got bounced msgs)
03:07:53 <kjetilho> gour: Gmane will continue as an NNTP gateway run by Lars, and a big non-profit will take responsibility for the web interface
03:08:33 <gour> kjetilho: ohh, that's good news. where did you read about it?
03:10:37 <kjetilho> I know him well :)

08:58:04 <warlord> rockit: what version of gnucash?
09:03:29 <rockit> 2.6.9 (2015-10-08) fedora
09:03:37 <rockit> warlord:
09:05:56 <warlord> rockit: hmm. well 2.6.13 is current. What happens when you try to run the report? What does "doesn't work" mean, exactly?
09:08:00 <rockit> warlord: i think i didnt "run the reports" - i simply list and sum the transactions - now it works :)))
09:08:10 <warlord> ???
09:09:30 <rockit> i quit my irc client - my actual question was in an earlier session
09:10:02 <warlord> rockit: the only question I see from you is: <rockit> "transaction report" dosnt work on my fedora system if started with "LANGUAGE=de_DE LANG=de_DE gnucash"???
09:10:31 <warlord> But I'm not sure what you mean by "I simply list and sum the transactions - now it works"
09:12:34 <rockit> warlord: as far as i can say the "transaction report" can be done when starting gnucash with "LANGUAGE=de_DE LANG=de_DE gnucash"
09:12:59 *** fabior has joined #gnucash
09:13:10 <rockit> only when starting it with "gnucash" (in the english default version)
09:13:36 <warlord> rockit: what happens when you run it in de_DE?
09:15:44 <rockit> it says: "Fehler im Bericht/n/nBeim Erstellen des Berichts ist ein Fehler aufgetreten." and there is some console output
09:16:34 <warlord> Can you pastebin the console output?
09:16:34 <rockit> it sometimes work when not using a secondary sorting key

09:31:09 <warlord> Could be.
09:31:34 <warlord> Can you do this: zcat /path/to/datafile.gnucash | egrep '1969|1970'
09:31:39 <rockit> strftime is tricky - probably

09:38:32 <fell> I am wondering about line 3: Invalid UTF-8 string passed to pango_layout_set_text()
09:38:52 <rockit> probably because of ä ö ü etc.
09:39:33 <warlord> rockit: what version of fedora is this?
09:39:53 <fell> Can you run 'echo $LANG'
09:40:37 <rockit> warlord, its rather old about 18 month
09:40:45 <rockit> fell: en_US.utf8
09:40:46 <fell> older version preferred @euro instead of utf-8
09:41:41 <fell> I don't know, which encoding your fedora defaults
09:41:43 <warlord> rockit: how old?
09:42:53 <rockit> warlord: fedora 21
09:43:40 <warlord> rockit: that's recent enough that it shouldn't require the @euro
09:43:47 <fell> You should prbably use 'LANG=de_DE.UTF-8 gnucash'
09:45:13 <fell> But @euro stand for ISO-encoding
09:50:09 <rockit> fell: "LANGUAGE=de_DE LANG=de_DE.UTF-8 gnucash" seems to work
09:51:30 <rockit> maybe i use "LANGUAGE=de_DE.UTF-8" too?
09:52:08 <warlord> rockit: also, I've never needed "LANGUAGE" on Fedora
09:53:04 <fell> No need for $LANGUAGE
09:53:11 <fell> read http://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/De/Konfiguration#Lokalisierung_.28Einstellung_der_Sprache.2C_W.C3.A4hrung.2C_Formate_....29
09:53:45 <fell> or http://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Locale_Settings
09:55:14 <fell> If we had e.g. nds too and you would prfer nds over de, the you should set $LANGUAGE="nds:de"
09:56:37 <rockit> fell: "http://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Locale_Settings" has the "LANGUAGE=de_DE LANG=de_DE gnucash" example (which i picked up)
09:58:18 <warlord> rockit: that's needed for Ubuntu
09:58:21 <warlord> Not Fedora
09:58:44 <rockit> warlord: oha - tricky
09:59:52 <fell> From my POV your version of Fedora is defaulting to the outdated ISO encoding
10:00:51 <rockit> however as far as it concerned me -- i happy -- thx :)
10:01:27 <fell> Hm, I have to think over the english wiki page.

16:55:13 <kris_> warlord: Thanks. I tried Vendor summary, no luck as far as I could figure. Customer summary seems to be customers only - didn't see how to look at vendors. Gotta admit, I didn't think to search mailing list. Best I've found (to now) was similar request in gnu-cash "wishlist". Didn't find a resolution though... I'll have to search the mail list later (missed lunch 2 hours ago, matter of priorities!). Thanks for the help & good idea.
16:58:24 <warlord> kris_: Unfortunately I dont think such a thing exists. I know *I* didn't write that in. The data is available, but no report to easily pull it out.
17:09:30 <kris_> warlord: Thanks for the info. I did the recommended search of mail list (via the site:lists.gnucash... as recommended) and found nothing - even just searching for word "vendor" and "list". I suspect I can easier create list(s) manually than learn to access the database for a custom report. For what it's worth... I find such things very handy to print & put in a binder. My work keeps me away from computer & am often in areas with
17:09:30 <kris_> no/limited cell contact. Having a list makes it so easy to just look up a number & call. Yea, I could populate the phone contact lists, but it wouldn't be the first time I lost/ drowned/ crushed a phone and wished I had paper on hand! I'm so bad, I keep manual logs to do data entry. Double duty, but I have an infallible backup! (IF the filing gets done!) Thanks for your help! Just don't have TOO MUCH fun today! Bye.
17:11:30 <warlord> LOL
