06:05:25 <PyroPeter> I'm using gnucash from git, from the 'maint' branch (basically 2.6.13b). When I try to reconcile an account, the little window asking me for the end balance shows up, but on confirming that, no further window opens. Is that expected behavior?
06:06:33 <PyroPeter> from the guide I'm assuming a second window should show up where I can look at the transactions in detail to find the missing transactions while e.g. looking at my bank statement

16:37:00 <aint> Hi everyone, I would like to start using GnuCash for my personal accounts, and wanted to put all previous transactions from my bank accounts. I see that one can get the qxf/qif files and manually transfer each transaction to the expense category. Is there a way to assign expense group by memo keyword? For example if memo says "Trader Joe's" it should directly go to expense/groceries?

16:59:20 *** fell_ is now known as fell
17:04:56 <fell> aint: first import a small file and teach the baysian algorithm the right accounts by selecting them while importing
17:14:10 *** fabior has quit IRC
17:21:20 <fell> witquicked: how are you getting your transactions? FinTS/HBCI, ofxdirectconnect, some file (which format)
17:22:29 <fell> while importing, isn't there a screen, where you can assign accounts and mark duplicates?
17:23:10 <fell> at the begin of the import, is there an option to choose the date range?
17:30:28 *** mlncn has joined #gnucash
17:32:35 <fell> PyroPeter: Yes, there should appear a new window with all your credits and debits for the date range - as shown in the guide.
17:40:50 <PyroPeter> fell: I found the window today: it opened behind gnucash. I guess I just needed a bit of sleep
17:43:19 <fell> OK, thanks for your promp resposen. Can you watch if it often is hidden? And sleep well!
17:43:37 <fell> response
17:43:44 <PyroPeter> it's always hidden. I don't really get why
17:44:30 <PyroPeter> :-P I sleept inbetween my messages... UTC+2 here
17:45:33 <PyroPeter> I probably should say that I'm using a tiling window manager. that sometimes causes problems with applications that try to be smart about window placement
17:45:54 <fell> which one?
17:46:32 <PyroPeter> i3
17:47:34 <fell> https://i3wm.org/
17:55:48 *** rubdos has quit IRC
17:56:50 <fell> PyroPeter, perhaps you should use the floating window mode , IIRC <alt>+d, like shown at the end of their video.
17:58:48 <PyroPeter> it's Super+Shift+Space
18:00:28 <PyroPeter> I see. no, Super/Alt+d is used to launch applications
18:00:51 <PyroPeter> gimp just works, because they flag their dialog windows as dialog windows
18:01:09 <PyroPeter> they get switched to floating mode automatically by i3
18:01:24 <PyroPeter> that also works in gnucash with the windows that set the correct x11 flag
18:02:12 <PyroPeter> (e.g. preferences window, hbci balance window, 1st window of the reconciliation dialog)
18:03:39 <fell> then you should file a bug report listing the windows with the missing flag.
18:05:17 <PyroPeter> well, now that I found the window, I'm actually quite happy with it not being a dialog window
18:06:23 <PyroPeter> because now the window is automatically part of my tiling layout (in this case just maximised)
