09:56:16 <Shawn> I think where my confusion is coming from is that I did a standard download of the software and do not recall having to name or locate any files. As I just downloaded the software yesterday on the new PC, this was the same process, no special designation of name or location. Can I assume that .gnucash file is not the data file in quesiton?
10:00:04 <warlord> The .gnucash DIRECTORY (folder) is not your data file, and your data file will not be located inside.
10:00:28 <warlord> HOWEVER, the .gcm files inside there will give you a clue as to the name(s) you used for your data file(s).... And you can use that to search your disk.
10:01:25 <warlord> But I'm not sure what confusion there is -- when you first run GnuCash it asks you to choose a name + location to store your data.. But it does only do this once; after that it remembers the last opened file and will reopen it every time you start the program.
