08:36:23 <Hinnerk> hi
08:36:46 <Hinnerk> i have two related issues, both with handling of the gui.
08:37:53 <Hinnerk> first, for some strange reason, the font is bigger than it used to be. maybe it is some system setting, that trickeld through to gnucash. I don't know why. So, how do i change the font size? Note that this only affects registers, not reports (even more strange).
08:38:11 <Hinnerk> Secondly, due to the incresed font, columns in the registers are too small.
08:38:27 <Hinnerk> Now I managed to change all of them to a reasonable size, except two:#
08:38:56 <Hinnerk> description: I just can't get this to get smaller. THere is no clear way of dragging the column width smaller, is there?
08:40:03 <Hinnerk> and the last column is too small. However, as learnt from the other columns, I need to extend the column width on the right side, however, that'S where the windows ends. It never appears to widen the column, despite my best effort to increase it bit by bit...
08:42:47 *** fabior has joined #gnucash
08:42:55 <Hinnerk> And let me use the opportunity to remind eveyone of thise feature request: https://gnucash.uservoice.com/forums/101223-feature-request/suggestions/4000795-resizing-columns-should-follow-common-standards
08:44:54 <Hinnerk> seriously, I've been trying now for ten minutes to get the last column wider.
08:45:01 <Hinnerk> I just doesn't work.
08:45:04 <Hinnerk> it
08:45:28 <Hinnerk> what is the magic order of changing column sizes that will make the last column wider?

09:10:37 <warlord> Hinnerk: make the last column bigger first (double-click in the header), then you can reduce the description column last.

09:58:23 <Hinnerk> ok,the double-click helped
09:58:53 <Hinnerk> so how is size set? why is font in report and registers so different in size?

12:20:40 <jralls> Hinnerk: You don't say what OS, but in general with Gtk font and icon size are handled with theming. If you're on Linux the distro sets the defaults but most desktop environments provide some sort of a GUI tool for managing it. On the Windows GnuCash bundle we provide a tool in the Start Menu for managing GnuCash's typeface. On a Mac you have to hand-edit ~/.config/gtk-2.0.gnucash; there are instructions at https://wiki.gn

12:37:47 <warlord> g888: gnucash defaults to your locale currency. I'm not sure what you mean by "defaults in wrong locale" unless you mean that your computer's locale is set incorrectly.
12:39:16 <g888> system prefs/regional pref set to english. timezone set to manila/philippines. gnucash defaults to locale=australia
12:39:48 <g888> local currency set to Php in mac. but gnucash defaults to AUD

12:41:24 <g888> got 2 macs. 1 is mavericks. the other is el capitan

12:43:15 <g888> yes

12:46:31 *** fell has joined #gnucash
12:47:19 <jralls> Really? That's strange. How about `defaults read -g AppleLocale`?
12:48:30 <g888> see screenshots https://www.evernote.com/l/AAmKC1S9r9JMkr0y08C7bqymtkN3Qdacm-M
12:49:10 <g888> defaults read -g AppleLocale results in en_PH
12:51:47 <jralls> g888: Which isn't a legal locale, so GnuCash is looking for the first one that provides English, which is en_AU. The bodus locale is probably also why LANG is empty.
12:53:08 <jralls> s/bodus/bogus/.
12:55:20 <g888> got it. would you have any hypothesis why Lang is empty when (if you have seen the screenshots) settings are ok
12:55:34 <jralls> See http://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Locale_Settings#Changing_the_Language_on_OSX for how to make a special AppleLocale setting for GnuCash.

12:57:05 <jralls> Apple uses ICU for localization in its own frameworks. The posix locales are there for posix programs like GnuCash, but that system is a lot less flexible than ICU.
12:58:31 <jralls> So for GnuCash you have to start with a locale in /usr/share/locale. There aren't any for the Philipines.
12:59:06 <g888> I got it. Thanks very much for the rapid resolution. you guys are awesome

13:32:20 <JeanValjeann> Hello
13:36:34 <jralls> warlord: I got most of src converted to non-recursive make. It's slightly *slower* than recursive: 4m57s vs. 4m50 for make && make check, and a few minor directories still aren't converted.
13:38:36 <jralls> codesmythe: So how's the CMake PR coming? ;-)
13:39:57 <warlord> Hmmm....
13:40:06 <warlord> I wonder why that's the case?
13:40:27 *** odo2063 has quit IRC
13:42:59 <jralls> warlord: Less cache locality, maybe?
13:43:33 <jralls> The difference is ~2%, so it could also just be randomness.

15:23:59 <gjanssens> I have just finished testing PR#40 by pbroadbery.
15:24:43 <gjanssens> The performance of the cash flow report indeed improves considerably and I didn't see any regressions in my tests.
15:25:10 <gjanssens> However strictly speaking this is an enhancement request and hence should be merged in master instead of maint.
15:25:36 <gjanssens> That would mean it will still take a while before the general public will get this improvement.
15:25:51 <gjanssens> So I am contemplating merging in maint anyway
15:26:20 <gjanssens> Feedback ?

16:06:17 <warlord> JeanValjeann: Pull Request #40
16:08:37 <jralls> gjanssens: I'd go for maint. It doesn't change any functionality or API, it's just a performance improvement.
16:09:23 <JeanValjeann> PR#40 is about a software ?

16:12:07 <JeanValjeann> oh ok, i did'nt know that ^^
16:12:29 <gjanssens> JeanValjeann: PR is short for "pull request"
16:12:55 <JeanValjeann> the software is gnucash ?
16:13:28 <gjanssens> Which is a mechanism used on github by contributors to present their code fixes for inclusion in the next version of gnucash
16:13:35 <gjanssens> yes the software is gnucash.
16:14:00 <gjanssens> jralls: agreed.
