11:47:10 <gregf> hi, I just started out with gnucash. I have some expenses setup. Under one of my accounts I am trying to add a new Schedule. Every time I click Schedule it tells me I can't use schedule while editing a transaction. I tried escaping and clicking outside the transaction box, but nothing seems to help.
12:01:04 <gjanssens> gregf: which transaction is active when you click on the Schedule button ?
12:01:23 <gjanssens> Or do you have the new transaction at the end hightlighted ?
12:04:04 <gjanssens> Or one step back even ? What exactly are you trying to achieve ?
12:04:28 <gjanssens> "Schedule" is meant to create scheduled transactions using an existing transaction as a template.
12:04:57 <gjanssens> Is that what you are looking for or do you just want to enter transactions ?
12:20:01 <gregf> gjanssens: ok I didn't realize it uses the existing one as a template, that solves my problem
12:20:14 <gjanssens> gregf: good
12:20:25 <gregf> gjanssens: thank you
12:20:44 <gjanssens> If you just want to create scheduled transactions (not based on existing ones), you can do that from the Actions menu
12:21:04 <gjanssens> gregf: you're welcom
12:21:05 <gjanssens> e

12:38:12 <gjanssens> hi warlord
12:38:36 <gjanssens> Did you see my comments from a couple of days back regarding the outstanding notes ?
12:38:49 <warlord> Nope.
12:38:55 <warlord> But I know I need to deal with them ;)
12:39:00 <gjanssens> Ok
12:39:07 <gjanssens> I did most of the work for you already
12:39:28 <gjanssens> There's only those notes left for which the nick was bad (ie with a : or , appended)
12:39:56 <warlord> Ah, and the gncbot interface wont let you remove those?
12:40:19 <gjanssens> Well, I could remove the others by pretending to be the nicks
12:40:33 <gjanssens> The nicks with : or , are invalid nicknames
12:40:39 <gjanssens> so I can't impersonate them
12:41:07 <warlord> ah. gotcha. And you dont have the privs on gncbot to remove them directly..
12:41:27 <warlord> I should just give you those privs --- if I could figure out how. (jsled set it up)
12:42:44 <gjanssens> ok
12:42:57 <gjanssens> If you make me admin for one day, I'll happily finish the job
12:45:30 <gjanssens> Something with "capability add" ?
12:49:02 *** nomeata has joined #gnucash

12:56:38 <warlord> gjanssens: if I knew which capability to add....
12:57:30 <gjanssens> warlord: you could check your own capabilities with "capabilities"
12:57:41 <gjanssens> I only have "op"
12:58:54 <warlord> I presume you mean #gnucash,op ?
12:59:00 <gjanssens> indeed
12:59:10 <warlord> try now?
13:00:10 <gjanssens> warlord: that's it
13:00:18 <gjanssens> I can now clean up the old notes
13:00:20 <gjanssens> Thanks
13:00:31 <warlord> You're welcome.
13:00:35 <warlord> Enjoy
13:01:35 <gjanssens> Done :)
13:01:52 <gjanssens> The only notes I've kept are those of less than a year old
13:02:03 <gjanssens> (and with valid nicks)
13:07:05 <warlord> ok
13:13:10 <warlord> (and YAY) :)
13:13:24 <jralls> Yay indeed. Thanks, Geert.
13:16:40 <gjanssens> My pleasure
13:17:11 <gjanssens> jralls: did you read my conversation with warlord about the weird crashes I got during unit testing ?
13:17:28 <jralls> No, when were they?

13:34:21 <jralls> gjanssens: Not sure why the free is tripping up, but an observation: If you're not using the fixture, as in this case, it's better to use GNC_TEST_ADD_FUNC rather than pass NULL for setup and teardown to GNC_TEST_ADD.
13:34:55 <gjanssens> Ok, I'll see what that does

13:48:21 <dorian> Hello everybody, I'm Dorian
13:49:25 <dorian> I would like to know if there is an advised method to build custom reports for gnucash. I could not find references to this in the user documentation.
13:51:03 <dorian> Besides, thanks for GnuCash is a nice piece of software !
13:52:04 <warlord> dorian: Have you looked at the "Custom Reports" page in the wiki?
13:52:12 *** fabior has joined #gnucash
13:54:21 <dorian> Where can I find the wiki ? Maybe I was reading the wrong documentation
13:55:16 <dorian> Oh, no. I'm mistaken. I actually was looking for changing the budget structure and asked for reports
13:55:24 <dorian> My bad
13:55:43 <dorian> Maybe you were refering http://gnucash.org/viewdoc.phtml?doc=help ?
13:55:50 <dorian> section 9.7 ?
13:56:44 <warlord> dorian: http://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Custom_Reports
13:57:11 <warlord> OH, changing the budget structure...... no idea
13:57:55 *** khaoohs_ has joined #gnucash
13:57:57 <dorian> Maybe I could get to what I want by only making a special report
13:58:10 <dorian> Thanks a lot for the link. I had not been aware of the wiki.
13:58:37 <warlord> What exactly are you trying to do with the budgets?
13:59:35 *** khaoohs has quit IRC
14:04:53 <dorian> maybe something silly : I would like the difference between the budgeted expenses and real ones be summed up month after month so that if I spend twice the budgeted amount on the first month, it divides the expense in two. The first would fille the first month budget and the second half for the second month
14:05:23 <dorian> then, also other things like expense versus income forecast based on past transactions' statistics
14:09:06 <dorian> I find it not really flexible in the budget utility since we have to update the estimation by hand
14:11:45 <warlord> I dont use the budget features.. so... maybe the Budget Report can do that?
14:13:17 <dorian> not as far as I know
14:15:13 <gjanssens> jralls: using GNC_TEST_ADD_FUNC also solves the crash in free. Yay
14:16:05 <jralls> gjanssens: Well, good. Weird but good.
14:18:33 <gjanssens> Yeah, weird indeed.
14:19:27 <gjanssens> I suspect one of the underlying libraries to use a static pointer somewhere which doens't get handled properly if called from different code paths
14:19:41 <gjanssens> But I'm not going to search for it...
14:21:37 <jralls> gjanssens: When you were running test_csv from the command line or debugger, were you explicitly unsetting G_DEBUG as the Makefile does?
14:22:09 <jralls> And are you sure the error wasn't an abort rather than a segfault?
14:23:30 <gjanssens> I was not unsetting G_DEBUG.
14:23:37 <gjanssens> I'm sure it was a segfault yes
14:24:03 <dorian> ok, thanks for the advices warlord
14:24:15 <dorian> I'll see what I can do with the report
14:24:17 <dorian> bye
14:24:18 *** dorian has left #gnucash
14:24:18 <gjanssens> G_DEBUG unsetting might have been the difference.
14:24:43 <gjanssens> I tried adding some MALLOC_xyz parameters as I found them in the test script in the Makefile
14:25:03 <gjanssens> Other than that I had given up as it was getting late here.
14:26:09 <jralls> The Malloc_xyz stuff I think is just Apple, which has a wonderful libmalloc with built-in debugging. Make valgrind unnecessary 90% of the time.
14:38:51 <gjanssens> Nice. It was much lower level than I'm used to in any case.
14:39:19 <gjanssens> And adding the MALLOC_xyz caused aborts earlier on in my tests, so it didn't help me debugging...
14:42:07 <gjanssens> But no matter. We got it fixed (or at least worked around it).

21:17:37 <blindestman> Hello, I am having a issue and I
21:17:43 <blindestman> 'm not sure what to do.
21:18:09 <blindestman> I checked the wiki and I didn't see anything like it there.
21:27:19 <warlord> blindestman: it would help if you actually said what your issue was... We can't divine it ourselves ;)
21:27:32 <warlord> (read: don't ask to ask -- just ask)
21:33:10 <blindestman> Okay, I have installed the 2.6.8 installer from the main download link onto two different computer and I get the same issue on both. These are windows 7 computers both running 64 bit. I can create a new account but it seems no matter the settings I give it when I go to save in xml format it hangs and says not responding.
21:33:33 <blindestman> I have waited it out but nothing happens, I'm not sure what to do and I really want to use this product.
21:33:37 <blindestman> Any ideas?
21:53:48 <warlord> Sorry, no idea. What happens if you use 2.6.7 instead of 2.6.8?
21:54:32 <blindestman> Haven't tried that.
21:54:36 <blindestman> I will now.
22:12:52 <blindestman> I went back to the old stable version on the site (2.4.15) and that works, Thanks for the help.
22:25:48 <warlord> blindestman: what about 2.6.7? 2.4.15 is like years old.
