05:15:30 <inksi> two of us using gnucash here on separate machines, different versions. neither of us find the entry auto-number feature working. I assume this is working. Is there something simple we could be doing wrong? I reset the counters in Properties, but no success.
05:17:44 <inksi> also the number format appears to be locked in, I cannot delete or change it, that is after doing so it reappears unchanged on a fresh start of gnucash
05:18:18 <inksi> i don't see this in any files that I could maybe edit out. any ideas please?

12:08:42 <dkcarlson> Hi. I am using release 2.6.6 for windows. Walmart each month includes an entry in their OFX download an item with a transaction date 1-1-2000 and a post date the same as that month's statement. Gnucash insists on dating that item in November 1999. It is a pain to go look for that transaction after the import. Is there some wat to fix the date during the import?

12:50:47 <elb> dkcarlson: the OFX is XML, you can preprocess it easily
12:57:04 <dkcarlson> another work-around. oh well...
13:04:37 <dkcarlson> looking at the xml I see that they give a value of 20000000 to both dtposted and dtuser, which does not match the paper statement either. Why does Gnucash date it in November 1999?
13:07:00 <dkcarlson> shouldn't 20000000 evaluate as 12/31/1999?

13:18:03 <b3niup> o/ can anyone give me some directions regarding 2.6.7 build with eguile 2.0?

15:56:33 <jralls> rsm: Thanks for your vote of confidence. There's no repository of contributed reports AFAIK. A few users have written their own and might be willing to share. The best place to ask would be the gnucash-user mailing list.
15:57:38 <jralls> b3niup: Is http://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Custom_Reports_Using_Eguile what you're looking for?

16:41:36 <b3niup> jralls: thanks but I'm looking for some details why latest gnucash is not building with latest guile (2.0.11) and how can i fix this
16:42:10 <jralls> OK. That has nothing at all to do with eguile, which is for writing reports.
16:42:36 <jralls> What OS and what is the error?
16:47:31 <jralls> b3niup?
16:50:13 <b3niup> jralls: oh, i meant guile 2.0.11. Build fails on make with following error: https://i.imgur.com/7LHjT0T.png
16:51:43 * jralls is studying the screenshot...
16:52:09 <b3niup> jralls: sorry, g2g for some time, should be back in few hours

16:56:33 <jralls> b3niup: When you come back check to make sure that src/reports/report-system/.libs/libgncmod-report-system.so exists. If not, look back through your build output to see why not.
17:00:25 <jralls> rsm: Your original post said that you found the built in reports to be "terrible", implying that they're utterly useless to you regardless of how many columns they have or what date range they cover. There seems no point in pursuing that further beyond suggesting that you look for a program that better suits your needs or find a consultant who can write you the reports that you want.

17:51:56 <dkcarlson> jralls: I think that some of the reports just need to start with a smaller chunk of data so the user doesn't have to wait so long before being able to tune the settings. Would that be hard to accomplish?
18:02:17 *** dkcarlson has quit IRC
18:06:26 <jralls> dkcarlson: I sympathize, but I don't know enough about how those reports are generated to answer. I imagine it has something to do with query design, since Edit>Find doesn't seem to take very long.
18:16:49 <b3niup> jralls: it exists, under src/report/report-system/.libs/libgncmod-report-system.so (report/, not reports/)

18:44:35 <jralls> b3niup: Hmm. The error message says "no code" rather than the usual "not found". Perhaps it's empty or the wrong architecture or something?
18:46:36 *** ErKa has joined #gnucash
18:50:38 <b3niup> jralls: well, that's the problem - all previous build was fine, after upgrading guile it's not working. Even versions, which previously were building without any issues (2.6.6, 2.6.5 etc)
18:53:53 <jralls> b3niup: Hmm, interesting. Did you clear the guile caches at ~/.cache/guile, $PREFIX/lib/gnucash/scn/ccache, and $PREFIX/lib/guile/2.0/ccache?
19:01:41 *** ErKa has quit IRC
19:02:32 <b3niup> jralls: Yes, that didn't help
19:03:27 <jralls> And you're of course building on a clean tree.
19:03:43 <b3niup> Yes
19:04:41 <b3niup> Building both - from github source and from sourceforge releases
19:05:01 <b3niup> I guess I'll have to submit bug, just wanted to ask here first
19:05:09 <jralls> I'm at a loss as to why 2.0.11 would break. It works fine for me on OSX, Debian Jesse, and Fedora 21 and Alex has used it on F22.
19:05:53 <jralls> There's no point in submitting a bug if we can't reproduce the problem. You never said what distro you're using; perhaps the packager for that distro can help.
19:07:17 <b3niup> I'm using Arch Linux, I can install official build from already built package, but I can't recreate it using PKGBUILD from ABS (which was used to create package in repo)
19:08:23 <b3niup> I also have my own patched gnucash package in AUR, which was successfuly built at work but not on my home desktop & notebook. I'll check tomorrow versions of packages on Arch at work used to build it
19:12:52 <jralls> OK, good luck.
19:16:28 <b3niup> Thanks for help jralls :) If you'll have any further ideas I'll be around ;>
19:19:19 <elb> for whatever it's worth, to me, the biggest limitation of gnucash reports is that they emit HTML
19:19:50 <elb> the difficulty of adding a custom report (this wiki page seems to suggest I can edit some config files to make that happen, I'm looking into this) is also a problem
19:20:00 <elb> but gcinvoice.py to the rescue, for that :-)
19:39:59 <jralls> elb: There's two flavors of custom report: One that you write in Scheme and a saved customized report. The latter is easy the former isn't, even if you're fluent in Scheme.
19:41:30 <jralls> I also agree that the reports should be created in XML and converted to HTML via CSS. That would make it pretty easy to write an XSLT to make a CSV export for easy spreadsheet ingestion.
19:42:36 <jralls> And CSS would make styling the report to one's taste much easier and more flexible.
19:43:03 <jralls> Unfortunately it is likely to be a long time before we get there.
19:43:20 <elb> jralls: yeah, xml would be great
19:43:26 <elb> an arbitrary template would be better
19:43:39 <elb> (which it seems to me scheme should easily allow)
19:44:11 <elb> fortunately the gnucash book itself seems to be quite reasonably structured
19:44:22 <elb> gcinvoice.py just parses it directly and slurps out the invoice data :-)
