06:03:01 <Parks> Hi all
06:03:27 <Parks> Can someone tell me how to ensure that when I run a trial balance I set it just for the accounting period I want please
06:04:21 <Parks> I started using GNU 18 months ago and I just want a trial balance for the last 12 momnth for our year's account period.

08:01:34 <kimmo2> Parks, you want to run a balance sheet report?
08:02:25 <Parks> yes, I have run a balance sheet and that's fine as is the P&L. But I'd like to close off the trial balance for my last year, and just run with c/f cash rather than all entries on the trial balance.
08:02:58 <Parks> I've changed the report dates, but it doesn't chane the trial balance period
08:14:34 <gjanssens> dbemowsk: as gnucash on android is an indepentent project, I'd suugest its github page https://github.com/codinguser/gnucash-android/issues
08:14:44 <gjanssens> s/suugest/suggest/

10:08:37 <zeta-> this takes quite a while despite not using reports for most of the year
10:09:25 <zeta-> What is happening? do reports need compiling / loading every run?
10:10:33 <zeta-> Is this just the way that guile/scheme works?

12:11:36 <dbemowsk> I can do that, but I also think that it would be something useful in the full desktop version also. A way to scan in and link receipts and other paperwork and link them to transactions would be incredibly useful.
12:13:50 <dbemowsk> Being able to do it right from my android phone would be even more useful, so I will make the suggestion on the github page too. I think the two would need to work together though.

16:08:50 <jralls> dbemowski: GnuCash (desktop) already has the ability to link external files to Transaactions, though it's a bit obscure. Right-click on the transaction and select Associate File With Transaction or Associate Location with Transaction. "Location" means a URI.

16:53:15 <dbemowsk> jrails, I am pretty new to gnucash. I am going to look into the file linking, thanks for the tip. The github link, I am gussing you are suggesting that is where I should post the suggestion for the android version?
16:57:15 <dbemowsk> jrails, I was just looking and I didn't see those options. I am running version 2.4.13 on Fedora 18. Is my version too old?
17:00:05 *** MagicFab has quit IRC
17:01:18 *** MagicFab has joined #gnucash
17:01:20 <kimmo2> that's pretty old
17:02:05 <kimmo2> fedora 22 is the latest and greatest
17:02:13 <kimmo2> eh? Firefox can't find the server at www.gnucash.org.
17:09:15 *** MagicFab has quit IRC
17:11:44 <dbemowsk> kimmo2, I know. I plan to upgrade soon, but I have some things that I need to get done before I do that.
17:12:29 <dbemowsk> kimmo2, maybe you should downgrade to Fedora 18, I can get to the site on that.....LOL
17:13:58 <kimmo2> dude, I run 17 ;)
17:14:06 <kimmo2> I'm in the process of upgrading
17:14:26 <kimmo2> but for some reason I can't get the 22 to boot from usb
17:17:35 <dbemowsk> I have not even tried anything with 22 yet. I read now that there is the fedup project which is FEDora UPgrade. I don't want to even try that or anything else until I have a complete clone of my HD.
17:18:10 <dbemowsk> So what version of gnucash do you run on 17?
17:19:17 <jralls> dbemowski: Yes, I'd missed that gjanssens_ had already told you that.
17:21:53 <dbemowsk> jralls, it appears that I need to upgrade my version of gnucash. The options you mentioned must have been added in a recent release.
17:22:16 <kimmo2> I forgot
17:23:11 <jralls> dbemowski: Not that recent, they're in 2.6.x which has been current stable for 18 months.
17:23:18 <kimmo2> I'm installing a new computer, the one with 17 is nearing the end of its usable life as some thermal paste has died and thinkpad_acpi shuts it down every 12 hours or so
17:23:36 <dbemowsk> I am not going to upgrade though until I upgrade my OS. I should be doing that in the next month or so.
17:25:19 <dbemowsk> II know Fedora 18 is old, which is probably why yum is only up to 2.4.13 for gnucash. There doesn't appear to be an update to 2.6
17:26:25 <dbemowsk> kimmo2, Pull it apart and put new thermal paste on. Can't be that hard.
17:26:39 <dbemowsk> What is the processor though?
17:27:24 <kimmo2> dbemowsk, well the thing is there's 10+ thermal sensors, and whatever the normal lm_sensor output gives me is nowhere near the critical temp reported by thinkpad_acpi modules
17:27:38 <kimmo2> besides, it's a 2009 T500, not exactly brand new
17:27:48 <kimmo2> plus I have an empty i7 NUC here
17:28:05 <kimmo2> once I get this thing going, I might troubleshoot the T500
17:28:16 <kimmo2> physically, it's the best laptop I've owned
17:28:32 <kimmo2> then again, I have no need for a laptop, as it's sat on the dock for the past 5 years
17:28:50 <kimmo2> the NUC can output 2*2560x1440, while the thinkpad can't
17:29:25 <dbemowsk> Good point
17:30:22 <kimmo2> and considering I just got 2*32" desk set up with a displayport kvm, I think it's a no brainer
17:30:37 <kimmo2> plus the thinkpad's internal display is cooked
17:31:14 <kimmo2> now that I remembered that, I think it's heading to the recycling
17:31:31 <dbemowsk> Wish I had a SPARE i7 laying around. I am only running an i5. Not that an i5 is bad.
17:32:02 <dbemowsk> Is it the LCD panel or the card that is bad?
17:32:19 <dbemowsk> Sell it on ebay for parts/repair
17:33:24 <kimmo2> I don't know, I would guess the panel since it was on for about 5 years straight
17:33:33 <dbemowsk> those thinkpads were workhorses and I'm sure someone would probably give oyu a few bucks if they new that it booted up.
17:33:55 <kimmo2> given that it's old and I have the new gear ready I won't be spending too many hours trying to figure out stuff
17:35:00 <dbemowsk> I get it. But if you can get a few bucks for it, why not
17:35:28 <kimmo2> I'd rather use the time invoicing for a guaranteed income...
17:36:06 <kimmo2> usually my "recycling" means posting an ad for $0, "pick up only"
17:36:24 <kimmo2> if someone wants to save me the trouble of pickup, that's fine
17:37:32 <dbemowsk> It's all in what you feel your time is worth.
17:37:42 <kimmo2> yeah
