10:37:38 *** andy has joined #gnucash
10:40:48 <warlord> saagar: what do you mean "serial nos"? The InvoiceID is a serial #
10:41:57 *** ErKa has joined #gnucash
10:42:29 <saagar> serial nos for invoice entries instead of date
10:43:19 <warlord> Ummm...
10:43:53 *** josePHPagoda has quit IRC
10:43:54 <warlord> You could put it into the description. Maybe into the Action column?
10:43:57 <warlord> But in general. no.
10:44:02 <warlord> Why would you want something like that?
10:45:01 <saagar> have a specific requirement where in all the entries will be for a single date ...but need to have serial no column...
10:45:25 *** himaxx has joined #gnucash
10:45:33 <warlord> I'm curious where this requirement originates
10:46:39 <saagar> well most of the invoices small(micro in fact) businesses generate will be of this format ...in India...
10:48:47 <warlord> Well, your only choices in the UI are going to be putting the serial# into the description or action columns.
10:49:06 <warlord> (The answer to your question is no, gnucash does not have a place to put line-item serial numbers into invoices)
10:49:48 <warlord> Your other alternative, assuming you dont need a monotonically increasing number but just unique numbers, would be to modify the invoice report to use the line-item GUID
10:50:02 <warlord> But IMHO that would be pretty ugly.
10:51:35 *** himaxx has quit IRC
10:51:36 <saagar> could you give me some link which explains this ..i would like to give it a try .as there is no other choice :)
10:53:52 <warlord> Umm.. google for "MIT Scheme Reference" to understand Scheme, the language the gnucash reports are written in.
10:54:23 <warlord> I'm not sure offhand what APIs to use to get the line-item GUID

15:01:40 <gjanssens> warlord: I am now
15:03:08 <gjanssens> fell_ where did you get this warning - GtkWarning: widget `GtkTable' isn't suitable for mnemonic activation ?
15:04:01 *** fabior has quit IRC
15:04:12 *** fell_ is now known as fell
15:05:13 <warlord> gjanssens: I'm having a strange issue on an FC21 system (using FC's gnucash, 2.6.5).. The system is a "remote" system (I log in only via ssh, with X forwarding). My homedir is a copy from an old system (RHEL4-based).
15:05:22 <warlord> The issue is that gnucash 2.6.5 doesn't save its settings.
15:05:52 <warlord> Every time I run gnucash it says its migrating the settings, but the settings don't get migrated. It doesn't remember my last-opened file.
15:06:37 <gjanssens> Hmm, I don't know the intrinsics of this.
15:06:55 <gjanssens> We're using gsettings, which on linux uses dconf as backend.
15:07:22 <gjanssens> dconf in turn is implemented on top of dbus
15:07:46 <gjanssens> I wonder if you have to start a dbus session on your remote machine before starting gnucash ?
15:08:17 <gjanssens> I seem to remember that doesn't happen automatically over ssh, only via local logins
15:08:31 <warlord> There is a dbus daemon running..
15:08:32 <gjanssens> You may have to do some research on ssh and dbus though
15:08:56 <gjanssens> That's on a lower level than I ever interacted with it...
15:09:06 <fell> gjanssens: I am currently adding accellerators to the edit preferences strings, but have problems with dropdown lists like Business->Report for printing.
15:09:26 <warlord> Hmm
15:09:38 <warlord> This is... frustrating.
15:09:59 <gjanssens> Yea, I can imagine
15:11:04 <gjanssens> warlord: perhaps this gives a hint ? http://machine-cycle.blogspot.nl/2010/12/ssh-and-dbus-sessions.html
15:12:15 <gjanssens> fell what do you want to achieve exactly for Business->Report printing? That each option in the dropdown list has a different mnemonic ?
15:13:08 <fell> No, just jump to that table like <tab> from the previous object.
15:15:11 <warlord> gjanssens: dbus-x11 wasn't installed..
15:15:15 <fell> I got that message after underlining the R from Report to ...
15:15:20 <warlord> So no dbus-launch
15:18:08 <gjanssens> warlord: so installing dbus-x11 fixed it ?
15:18:32 <warlord> gjanssens: well, installed that and then running: export `dbus-launch`
15:18:39 <warlord> after that, stuff seems to work
15:19:01 <warlord> That URL you sent doesn't seem to work, there is no $HOME/.dbus
15:20:00 <gjanssens> ok. It was the first link on ddg I got for "dbus session over ssh"
15:20:09 <gjanssens> Glad you found the proper solution
15:20:31 <warlord> Well, not sure it's a "solution", but it solved the problem for now. Might need to do something different next time I login.
15:20:40 <warlord> ... or automate it
15:21:22 <gjanssens> fell: so if I get this right: you want to be able to hit ALT-R and the dropdown list should be highlighted for further keyboard navigation ?
15:21:36 <fell> and pressing <alt>+r on the page.
15:21:38 <fell> yes
15:21:46 <gjanssens> (space to open the dropdown followed by arrow key navigation to get to the proper selection)
15:23:11 <fell> The space is not necccesary, just press alt+down
15:24:19 <fell> That is not the problem. The problem is to reach the table from somwhere else than the ancestor or successor element.
15:34:03 *** himaxx has joined #gnucash
15:34:44 <gjanssens> fell: I understand what you want to achieve
15:34:57 <gjanssens> I don't know however why it's not working.
15:35:12 <gjanssens> When I try it here I get the same error.
15:35:47 <gjanssens> You might want to ask this on the gtk support channels
15:36:26 <fell> NP! After I have finished the other pages, I will do more experiments.
